Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled. Demonstrates knowledge and operation of LIS software, computer programs and equipment. Performs routine preventative maintenance and troubleshoots malfunctions on equipment and instrumentation. Completes, records, and monitors quality control and quality assurance documentation. Reviews and understands standard operating procedures and completes continued education activities. Assists with inventory control. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the following complex histology duties: tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, coverslipping, microscopy, tissue identification, solution preparation, automated & manual staining techniques when assigned, and general immunohistochemistry when assigned. Meets or exceeds departmental productivity standards in embedding and microtomy areas. Trains others to perform histology responsibilities when assigned.PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:Sitting up to 6 hours/day in 3-hour incrementsStanding up to 3 hours/day in 1-hour incrementsWalking up to 2 hours/day in 10-minute increments. Rarely carries objects up to 25 pounds.Hearing as it relates to normal conversation.Seeing as it relates to general far/near/color and peripheral vision and depth perception.POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS: Potential risk of biological, mechanical, and chemical hazards.SPECIFIC PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE:Gloves, protective face masks/shields and lab coats.COMMUNICATIONS:Communicates with all levels of hospital personnel, clients, management, physicians, and outside vendors and visitors.
