Assistant Principal - Secondary

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

per contract, 2025-2026 school year

Primary Purpose:

Assist in directing and managing the instructional program and supervising operations at the campus level. Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service. Assist in directing the implementation of District policies and instructional programs and in managing the operation of campus activities.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

Master's degree in educational administration

Principal certification or appropriate Texas certificate

Certified instructional supervisor and appraiser in Texas Teacher Evaluation & Support System

Special Knowledge/Skills

Working knowledge of curriculum, instruction and alternative education

Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness

Ability to manage personnel

Ability to implement policy and procedures and interpret data

Strong communication (verbal and written), organizational, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Three years classroom teacher experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management Monitor instruction to ensure program activities are related to program outcomes and use these findings for corrective action and improvement, as well as for recognition of success. Assist the principal in analyzing and disaggregating data to assist in meeting students' academic needs. Assist in monitoring the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills/Student Expectation as set forth by the Texas Education Agency and as taught in accordance with state guidelines, policy and regulations. Work with staff to plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum on a systematic basis. Monitor curriculum delivery utilizing walk-throughs and coaching/mentoring procedures. Provide for two-way communication with district leaders, staff, students, parents, and the community. Lead a collaborative process to develop performance objectives involving staff, parents, and the community. Support the use of appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of campus performance objectives addressing each academic excellence indicator. Assure students' success as determined by local standards, curriculum and assessment. Comply with District policies, state and federal laws and regulations. School Improvement

Determine and build a common vision with staff for school improvement; direct planning activities and implement programs in collaboration with staff to insure attainment of school's mission. Use information and insights provided through assessment instruments, the District appraisal process, line supervisors' evaluative feedback and professional learning programs to improve performance. Promote improvement of student performance through activities such as comparing disaggregated student performance results to state accountability standards and to prior year performance. Assist in identifying, analyzing, and applying research findings to facilitate school improvement. Personnel Management

Collaborate with the principal in the interview and selection process of new staff. Define expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with all staff. Assist the principal in making recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, promotion, and dismissal. Confer with staff regarding their professional growth and work jointly with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals. Management of Fiscal, Facilities and Administrative Functions

Comply with all policies and procedures; internal controls; and state, local, and federal laws as they pertain to the financial affairs of the District. Promptly report to the immediate supervisor or Superintendent any suspected violations of the code of ethics, such as theft, fraud, or any other dishonest act in the workplace. Act in an ethical and honest manner in all business transactions of the District. Assist in developing budget based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, and personnel; implement programs within budget limits; maintain fiscal control; accurately report fiscal information. Assist in managing the use of school facilities; supervise maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus. Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required in a timely manner. Student Management

Work with staff and encourage student input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable. Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues. Professional Growth and Development

Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment. Provide leadership in addressing challenges facing the profession; pursue professional learning activities; and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals. Observe professional ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics. Communication

Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance from staff and students and recognize excellence and achievement. Facilitate effective and timely resolutions of conflicts. Adhere to District organizational chart in communication with all constituents. School and Community Relations

Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs. Use appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement. Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission. Supervisory Responsibilities

Share in the supervision and evaluation of the job performance of teachers, counselor, professional support staff, paraprofessional support staff, and substitute teachers. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
