The Education Assistant provides direct support to the tribal Education Director in the daily operations, programs, and events of the tribal education center related to the children. This position plays a key role in assisting with the planning, coordination, and implementation of educational and cultural activities for tribal children and families. The assistant helps ensure a safe, welcoming, and effective learning environment that supports the Tribe's educational goals.
*Duties and Responsibilities:*
* Assist the Education Director in developing and organizing educational programs, youth activities, field trips, and cultural events.
* Support preparation of materials and supplies for daily programs and events.
* Help create and maintain the monthly education activity calendar for distribution to parents, tribal members, and council.
* Communicate with parents and guardians regarding program updates, children's participation, and upcoming events.
* Assist with coordinating safety procedures and ensuring all safety protocols are followed by staff, children, and visitors.
* Maintain accurate records of student attendance, parental permissions, and event participation.
* Providing individualized support to students, addressing their unique learning needs.
* Help prepare reports to the Education Director regarding several programs progress, attendance, and upcoming goals.
* Assist with greeting and guiding parents, visitors, and volunteers at the education center.
* Provide supervision and support to children during daily activities, meals, transportation, and field trips.
* Help facilitate parent meetings, workshops, or community education sessions as directed.
* Support outreach to the community to promote education programs and services.
* Perform clerical duties such as filing, creating and distributing flyers, data entry, and scheduling.
* Assist the youth with tutoring or completing schoolwork
* Assist with secretarial needs as directed
* Copy, file, record and organize items and documents as necessary
* Other duties as assigned
*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:*
* Ability to work collaboratively with staff, children, and families.
* Understanding of tribal communities, cultures, and values.
* Ability to type 35 WPM and proficient knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Adobe, Google Classroom and Canva
* Strong communication and organizational skills.
* First Aid/CPR certification or able to obtain within 60 days of employment
* Indoor and outdoor work in an active and youth-focused setting.
* May require some evening or weekend hours for special events or meetings.
* Regular lifting, bending, and activity with children may be required.
*Experience and Education:*
* High School diploma or GED required.
* 3 years of experience working with children or in an educational setting or child development, or related field preferred.
*Conditions of Employment:*
* Must submit to and pass pre-employment background check and drug test (employee will be subject to random screenings)
* Employee will serve 90-day probationary period.
* Valid state issued driver's license and/or the ability obtain a California driver's license.
