The Driver Dispatcher is responsible for the efficient coordination and dispatching of company and owner-operator drivers hauling dry bulk materials. This role ensures that customer loads are scheduled, assigned, and executed in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner. The dispatcher serves as the primary point of contact between drivers, customers, and terminal operations, maintaining accurate records and supporting regulatory compliance.
*Key Responsibilities:* * Schedule, dispatch, and monitor drivers for local, regional/over-the-road (OTR) dry bulk deliveries. * Assign loads based on driver hours of service, equipment availability, proximity, and customer priorities. * Communicate load details, routing instructions, and safety protocols clearly to drivers. * Track and monitor load progress in real time using dispatch or transportation management software (TMS). * Ensure compliance with all DOT/FMCSA regulations, hours-of-service rules, and company policies. * Maintain up-to-date dispatch boards, driver logs, load documentation, and customer records. * Work closely with customer service, maintenance, and safety departments to resolve delays, breakdowns, or driver issues. * Assist with load planning, trailer utilization, backhauls, and efficient routing to reduce deadhead miles. * Respond promptly to service changes, load cancellations, or emergencies. * Communicate with customers regarding load statuses, ETAs, and delivery confirmations. * Support onboarding and coaching of drivers regarding dispatch procedures and customer expectations.
*Qualifications:*
*Education:* * High school diploma or equivalent required.
*Experience:* * 2+ years of dispatching experience in trucking, preferably in dry bulk, tankers, or specialized freight. * Experience working with pneumatic trailers or bulk commodities is a strong plus.
*Skills:* * Working knowledge of DOT regulations, hours-of-service (HOS), and ELD platforms (e.g., Samsara, Omnitracs, PeopleNet, Qualcomm). * Proficient in dispatching or TMS systems (e.g., McLeod, TMW, LoadMaster, etc.). * Strong communication and problem-solving skills. * Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. * Customer-focused with attention to detail and accuracy.
· Excellent communication skills to clearly relay information to all involved parties
· Ability to stay calm in fast-paced situations
*Working Conditions:* * Office-based role with occasional exposure to terminal, yard, or fleet environments. * May require availability outside regular business hours for emergency dispatching or driver support. * Monday through Friday schedule, including weekends (*must be able to work at least one Saturday monthly*) as well evenings may be required. *On-call hours may be required. *
*Success Metrics:* * On-time pickup and delivery performance * Driver satisfaction and retention * Reduction in detention time and deadhead miles * Load planning efficiency and dispatch accuracy * Compliance with DOT and HOS regulations
