Rigger

The Rigger sets up or repairs rigging for construction projects, ship yards or other sites. The incumbent maintains records on certified materials and equipment. Essential duties and job functions include assembling rigging to lift and move equipment or materials, selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, attaching pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, attaching loads with grappling devices, giving directions to crane operators, setting up and bracing hoisting equipment, splicing ropes and cables, pouring sockets with resin or zinc, directing workers engaged in hoisting machinery, maintaining records on certified materials and equipment, testing and certifying rigging gear and equipment, erecting scaffolding, and performing other related duties as assigned. The rigger is accountable for the proper use of tools and equipment, completing all mandated training, timely and cost-effective performance of duties, timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work, dealing with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner, adherence to company safety policies, compliance with company standard operating procedures, and having the ability to work well under pressure. Job requirements include four years of experience as a rigger, knowledge of strengths and uses of a variety of cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, ability to perform physically demanding work, possession and maintenance of hand tools, required explosives certifications, experience in soldering of cable ends and slings, forklift experience desirable, possession and maintenance of a valid Washington State Class B driver's license, meeting and maintaining company physical and security requirements, ability to lift 50lbs, licensing in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements, good communication skills, ability to pass any background checks and/or drug testing, and U.S. citizenship. Wages are $37.27/hr for this union position. The position supports Naval Kitsap Bangor near Silverdale and Poulsbo, Washington, and offers a benefits package valued at over $10+/hour including paid vacation, personal leave, pension and 401K, medical, dental, vision and life insurance, and 11 paid holidays.
