Detention Officer I
Wilson County Government offers a salary range of $47,088.00 to $79,584.00 annually for this position. The job is located in Wilson, NC 27893, and is a full-time opportunity. Detention Officers can reside within 30 miles outside of the county line. The general statement of job involves performing intermediate protective service work processing inmates, maintaining Detention Center security, transporting inmates to court, medical and related facilities, and doing related work as required. Specific duties and responsibilities include admitting and booking new inmates; securing inmates' property; preparing and transporting inmates; reviewing logs and reports; attending assigned station; supervising medical treatment; communicating with inmates; supervising visitation; maintaining the security of the jail; operating control panels; utilizing computerized data entry equipment; supervising inmates; dispensing supplies; assisting court personnel; and performing other related work as required. Minimum education and experience require a high school diploma or GED and minimal experience working in a detention center or security position, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Special requirements include a valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina, successful completion of certification as a detention officer, certification in Fire Safety and Operation, CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens, no felony charges or commitments, and being at least 21 years old. Physical requirements include operating machinery, equipment, and tools; exerting force; standing, walking, running, and physical confrontation; comparing and judging characteristics; speaking and signaling; reading and preparing lists, forms, logs, reports; applying rational systems; recording and delivering information; utilizing mathematical formulas; inspecting items; coordinating hands and eyes; handling items; differentiating colors; dealing with people; communicating via telephone and two-way radio; and performing essential functions satisfactorily.
