The Cook prepares food for the caf and patients by following a recipe, ensures the food is cooked to proper temperature and helps with any catering as necessary. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Prepares food and serves hospital patrons and patients. Takes and completes orders from customers and cooks foods requiring short preparation time, according to customer/patient requirements. Provides the highest quality of service to customers at all times. Follows recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments. Operates a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry or fish for culinary use. Tastes products, reads menus, estimates food requirements, checks production, and keeps records in order to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment. Selects recipes per menu cycle, prepares bakery items, receives inventory, moves and lifts foodstuffs and supplies, and prepares meals for customers requiring special diets. Cleans and sanitizes workstations and equipment, as necessary.
