Assistant Freedom of Information Act Coordinator
As Assistant Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Coordinator, this position independently administers the Freedom of Information Act. The assistant FOIA coordinator (AFC) is responsible for accepting and processing requests for Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy's (EGLE) public records under the Freedom of Information Act. The AFC also processes civil, third-party subpoenas received by EGLE. The AFC must have a thorough knowledge of existing, new, and revised Michigan complied laws, as well as public acts, legislative bills, Attorney General Opinions, court opinions and decisions, and EGLE methods of operation. The AFC must explain FOIA exemptions and relevant case law to requesters, staff, attorneys, and the public. The selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person) or a fully remote work schedule (with occasional travel to their official work location). Employees approved for schedules that include remote work must complete that work within Michigan. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed. When working remote, employees must use a designated workspace that is safe and professionally appropriate, allows for privacy, minimizes distractions, and includes secure internet access. Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major. Departmental Analyst 9: No specific type or amount is required. Departmental Analyst 10: One year of professional experience. Departmental Analyst P11: Two years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service. Alternate Education and Experience
Departmental Analyst 9 - 12: Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.
