Paint Lead

The Painter Lead is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing daily operations in the paint department. This individual ensures that all painting tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. The Painter Lead will train and supervise team members, manage workflow, and coordinate with other departments to meet production goals. This position reports directly to the Paint Supervisor. Key responsibilities include: Lead and coordinate the work of painters on the production floor. Schedule and prioritize painting tasks to meet production deadlines. Perform complex painting tasks using HVLP spray guns and ensure quality standards are met. Train, coach, and mentor junior painters and new team members. Monitor painting operations to identify and correct flaws such as blisters or streaks. Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and delivery standards. Review and approve team members timecards and manage time punches in the HRIS system. Conduct performance evaluations and implement disciplinary actions when necessary. Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the paint department. Collaborate with other departments to align painting tasks with overall production schedules. Ensure buildings are sealed and weatherproof as required. Complete and verify quality checklists at each stage of the painting process. Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers and power equipment. Perform surface preparation tasks such as filing, grinding, sanding, and smoothing. Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Manager. Qualifications and experience include: High school diploma or GED required. 5+ years of industrial or commercial painting experience, including leadership responsibilities. Proficiency in HVLP spray painting and surface preparation techniques. Experience in a production or metal fabrication environment preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to painting operations. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Physical ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, lift up to 50lbs, and push/pull up to 100lbs. Comfortable working from ladders up to 20 feet. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
