Staff Nurse

The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse position is to provide patient care (neonate to maturity) based on the identified individualized needs of assigned patients and families within the clinical nursing role. The Staff Nurse will assess, screen, evaluate, educate, and provide care management/outcome management in accordance with professional nursing standards and patient needs. The role of the Staff Nurse also includes practice/office support. Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Staff Nurse include: Independently obtaining health histories and providing assessments or screenings as indicated on selected patient population; triage to appropriate health care provider. Utilizing knowledge of growth and development, assessing the physical, psychological, socio-cultural, social-economic and spiritual status of assigned patients in accordance with UH and ACC standards. Implementing and evaluating patient individualized medical plan of care based on assessment of chronological age, developmental level and desired outcome. Providing independent/interdependent/dependent procedural care in accordance with Nursing scope of practice and providing complex nursing skills and clinical judgment as indicated. Providing direct patient care or directing other health team members to ensure proper implementation of medical/nursing plan of care. Planning and coordinating patient care within external clinical environments i.e. home care. Orienting and being resource to nursing staff and ancillary staff / students, as assigned or as appropriate. Teaching patient/significant others about health/illness state and plan of care. Developing and/or assisting with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with University Hospital standard and State/Federal regulation. Qualifications

The qualifications for the Staff Nurse position include: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. BLS (CPR) is required. Candidates lacking current BLS (CPR) Certification must obtain certification prior to start date of employment. Preferred: Certification in area of Medical Surgical, OB/GYN, Diabetes, Adolescent/Pediatrics, or Operating Room Nursing preferred. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a BSN preferred.
