Land & Resource Management Technician - Temporary Assignment

Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing technical support for assigned department operations. Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork. This is a temporary position not to exceed 6 months from date of hire. Pay Grade
G1 - DOE Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent. Three (3) years of experience in the occupational field, sufficient to understand the major duties of the position. Relevant experience and skills may include: experience using chainsaws, power tools, or machinery, experience operating all-terrain vehicles and boats, experience with GIS or other mapping software, ability to work independently out of doors in all weather conditions, experience marking and/or cruising timber. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical. Duties/Responsibilities
Coordinates the Firewood Program and assists with commercial timber harvest efforts; conducts inspections of firewood locations; updates documents, maps and permits; explores and develops new firewood areas. Collaborates with project managers to ensure timber resources are managed in accordance with Borough code. Installs trail cameras and monitors photographs. Facilitates salvage timber sales. Produces and analyzes digital drawing using GIS software; designs and creates drawings, maps, charts and graphs. Performs document research; interprets and delineates land transactions. Develops scopes of work and project deadlines. Maintains and updates files and records. Conducts site inspections or timber and materials sales contract sites. Locates and marks property boundaries, timber sale boundaries, and limits of materials extraction. Performs timber inventories; determines timber stand volume, log grade, and stand health. Gathers field data for preparation of highest and best use analysis of Borough land. Performs related duties. Temporary and Thousand Hour (1000) employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package. Following is a brief description of the only benefit provided to this class of employee. Alaska Supplemental Benefits System: The Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) is in lieu of Social Security and is mandatory. An employee contributes at 6.13% of gross wages, matched by the Borough (6.13%), on the present wage base of $176,100.
