Investigator Position
The Investigator position is vital to daily operations of the Police Department, performing specialized work associated with investigations of criminal activity, collecting/processing of evidence, prosecution of cases, protection of life and property, enforcement of federal, state and local laws, and response to emergency situations. Position may also perform task related to a special division or function as assigned. Essential Functions of the Job: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. This classification is part of the broad-band compensation plan. Duties listed may not be performed by all incumbents, and level may be assigned in accordance with the skills and proficiencies demonstrated by the incumbent. Conducts criminal investigations and/or responds to dispatched calls involving narcotics, vice, homicide, rape, assault, abduction, missing persons, juvenile, child abuse/neglect, abuse of elderly, auto/property theft, burglary, robbery, gang activity, financial fraud, forgery, or other crimes. Enforces all applicable codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations (including traffic, criminal and civil) in order to protect life and property, prevent crime, and promote security. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 40 semester college hours from an accredited college/university or have obtained at least 400 hours of advanced law enforcement related training, a combination of college hours and training hours to equal 400 equivalent training hours. Four (4) years of previous law enforcement experience must be GA P.O.S.T. certified (or able to obtain equivalence of training) and complete a minimum of twenty hours of Georgia P.O.S.T. approved service training annually. Must possess a valid driver's license and no felony convictions. This is a full-time position and receives all benefits afforded to regular employees.
