Park University offers its students free, virtual and face-to-face tutoring. To ensure students receive high-level support, Park is committed to providing professional tutoring by qualified, experienced subject matter experts. We currently have openings for part time tutors in: Writing, ELL and STEM. Position Accountabilities: Assist students with academic concepts and skills both face to face and virtually

Maintain tutoring records

Participate in tutor development activities

Provide additional support for the Academic Success Center, including the testing center

Work with at-risk, first time freshman, first generation, student athletes and the overall student body to achieve academic success

Writing: Writing provides tutoring across all majors and is familiar with different writing styles and requirements. The writing tutor must be able to review and identify the writing needs of students at all levels and across all majors. The writing tutor will strive to teach the students to become independent learners capable of developing their writing through organization, coherence, grammar, punctuation, research and citations, and critical thinking. Tutors review and explain course material and concepts and assist students with homework and assignments, and prepare the students for major writing assignments, research papers, and other homework. The tutor will collaborate with faculty and the Director of Academic Retention Initiatives to assess students' work and track their progress. Provide high-quality writing tutoring to students one-on-one or in small groups using an academic support approach to develop independent learners. Provide instruction on grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing mechanics, and research and citation skills. Guide students through the writing process, including pre-writing, outlining, drafting, revising, proofreading, editing, researching, and citing. ELL: English Language Support provides individualized support to English Language Learners. The professional tutor will focus on developing the learners' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The ideal professional tutor will have experience working with English language learners. The primary responsibility of the professional tutor is to help English language learners acquire English speaking and writing skills in order to succeed in all courses at Park University. Tutors review and explain course material and concepts and assist students with homework and assignments, and prepare the students for exams. To best support the ELL students, the tutor will collaborate with faculty and the Director of Academic Retention Initiatives to create individualized plans to support the students and track their progress. Position Accountabilities: Evaluate each student's English language skills to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Provide instruction on grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing mechanics and speaking skills. Demonstrate an understanding of different cultures and have the ability to adapt to the diverse student population in order to best support each individual student. Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students and their diverse backgrounds, experiences, cultures, and languages. STEM: Meet with Park University students, individually or in leading study groups, to help them succeed in math and science courses. The ideal professional tutor will have backgrounds in some or all of the following subjects: chemistry, biology, accounting, business analytics, computer science, statistics, algebra, and calculus. The primary responsibility of the professional tutor is to support students in becoming independent learners and become more efficient in their study habits. Tutors review and explain course material and concepts and assist students with homework and assignments, and prepare the students for exams. In addition to assisting students with course content, the tutor provides students with effective study and time management strategies. Position Accountabilities: Provide subject-specific support to students through drop-in and scheduled appointments. Appointments are held virtually and face to face. Understand different learning styles and student preferences to provide the best support for the individual learner. Utilize feedback and listening skills to determine the necessary scope and pace of the tutoring session. Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students and their diverse backgrounds, experiences, cultures, and languages. Position Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in tutoring area.

Teaching or tutoring experience.

Ability to work with diverse populations of students from many ethnic, cultural, and educational backgrounds and of all ages.

Excellent communication skills.

Computer skills needed to use Microsoft Office and Zoom. Ability navigate Park's learning management system and multiple applications used for delivery of student services.
