Job Opportunity With Iredell County Government
Under general supervision, performs driving and related duties associated with public transportation of passengers. Work involves operating various vehicles for the safe and orderly transportation of passengers to and from their destinations; completing daily inspections of vehicle; fueling, interior and exterior cleaning of vehicle; maintaining accurate trip records; and assisting passengers as required. Work also involves receiving and accounting for fares and radio communications. Employee must exercise some independent judgment and initiative to ensure safe operation of vehicle and in handling unusual situations arising with passengers. Employee must also exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public. Reports to the Operations Supervisor. Operates a van or small bus to transport passengers to and from their destination. Must have considerable knowledge of NC DOT operation and maintenance guidelines for CDL and Public transportation operations. Inspects the vehicle daily prior to beginning route. Follows a prescribed checklist in reviewing the vehicle's operational and safety features; records all repair needs/problems on checklist and reports findings requiring immediate attention to the Operations Officer; completes check of all fluids and maintains proper level; washes and cleans vehicle inside and outside as required. Maintains accurate daily trip logs and provides necessary data for ICAT's accounting system as required; completes all records daily and follows reporting procedures as required; receives and accounts for all fares as collected daily. Uses sound judgment in following dispatch instructions, being able to recognize, create, and follow logical sequences for pickup and drop-off of passengers in an efficient manner. Determines the most logical sequences for pickup and drop-off of passengers based on dispatcher's instructions. Keeps regular contact by radio with dispatcher (or phone, if radio system is out); uses correct FCC procedures and observes radio courtesy. Uses on-board tablet for manifest, communications, and navigation. Observe all traffic laws, Including one unique to public transportation Ensures the safety of mobility-impaired passengers by following proper procedures in using wheelchair lift equipment and securing wheelchairs and other mobility equipment with vehicles. Assists both ambulatory elderly persons and passengers with disabilities from the ground level door of their residence into the vehicle and vice versa. Drivers are not expected to move wheelchair persons up/downstairs in a private residence or destination. Drivers are not to enter a passenger's home except in extreme emergencies. Must attend and successfully complete all required training classes by NCDOT. ICATS Will provide the approved training with in-class instruction, videos, and hands-on training. Training will include, but not limited to, CPR, First Aid, Illegal Drug Use, Bloodborne Pathogens, Human Trafficking, Conflict De-escalation, HIPPA, Emergency Procedures, ADA, Distracted Driving, Hazardous Material, and Defensive Driving. Must follow emergency procedures as instructed by ICATS. Performs other related tasks as required by the Operations Supervisor or Transportation Director. Adheres to ICATS Inclement Weather Policy. Proficient in handling a vehicle in various conditions, including smooth acceleration, braking, steering, and lane changes. Comprehensive understanding of all applicable road rules and regulations. Ability to read maps and use GPS systems to efficiently plan routes. Identifying and resolving issues encountered on the road, including vehicle malfunctions and unexpected traffic situations. Maintaining focus on road conditions and surroundings to ensure safety. Clear communication with dispatchers, customers, and other drivers. Providing courteous and professional service to passengers or clients when necessary. Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting simple issues High School Diploma or GED; at least 21 years of age with a minimum of two (2) years driving experience. Requires possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's License appropriate for the size vehicle to be driven (Regular, Class C or higher.) This position is designated as an authorized Motor Vehicle Operator for Iredell County and requires adherence to the Iredell County Vehicle Operations Policy. Must be bondable and able to relate to people of all ages and economic and ethnic backgrounds. Must comply with NCDOT/FTA requirements for pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol tests as deemed appropriate by the Iredell County Area Transportation System current approved drug testing policy. Must pass the Federal Transit Administration CDL physical examination. Must be willing to obtain CDL Class B with P endorsement within six months of employment if not already carrying one. Applicant will be asked to complete a Physical Assessment Test as a condition of employment. Must have a telephone or be able to be reached. Must be able to operate a smart phone or tablet for daily operational assignments. Background checks are performed as a condition of employment and performed every three years thereafter. DMV checks are performed as a condition of employment and annually thereafter. DMV driving record should comply with the ICATS's Motor Vehicle Record Check Policy. Drivers must have no more than two chargeable moving violations in the past three (3) years and must not have a Driver's License suspension or revocation within the past five (5) years.
