Clinical Assistant 2, Bone Density (DXA) Technician
The Clinical Assistant 2, Bone Density (DXA) Technician provides specialized technical support for all DXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) imaging procedures, including scanning and data analysis. The technician ensures safe, accurate, and high-quality imaging while maintaining regulatory compliance and promoting patient comfort and safety. This is a part-time position (0.6 FTE). Key responsibilities include: Patient Care & Identification:
Accurately identify patients before procedures begin and ensure all necessary forms are completed and documented. DXA Imaging & Operation:
Perform bone density scans using DXA equipment according to protocol. Ensure proper patient positioning and scan acquisition for accurate measurement of bone mineral density (BMD) at designated anatomical sites. Image Analysis & Data Management:
Process and analyze scan results using DXA software. Review image quality and results for accuracy before submission. Enter scan data and interpretations into the designated database or medical record system. Quality Assurance & Equipment Maintenance:
Perform quality control (QC) procedures on DXA equipment. Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and coordinate maintenance or repair with appropriate personnel when needed. Radiation Safety:
Follow established radiation safety protocols and ensure that all patients and staff are protected from unnecessary exposure. Maintain compliance with regulatory guidelines for radiation-emitting devices. Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate logs of patient procedures, QC activities, maintenance, and any issues encountered. Report findings and any abnormalities to the supervising physician or designated personnel. Patient Interaction & Workflow Coordination:
Explain procedures to patients and respond to their concerns to ensure a comfortable and informative experience. Maintain efficient workflow through the imaging center to optimize scheduling and patient throughput. Regulatory Compliance:
Adhere to institutional and federal guidelines. Participate in audits and assist in maintaining documentation to ensure regulatory compliance. Inventory & Supplies Management:
Monitor and order DXA-related supplies as needed to avoid delays in imaging services. Cross-Training & Team Support:

Perform other duties related to DXA operations or assigned by supervisor in support of clinical and research imaging services. Required Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of operating the DEXA machine and understanding its functions. This includes the ability to calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot the equipment. Ability to interact with patients, explain procedures, and ensure their comfort during the scan. Demonstrate ability to accurately position patients on the densitometer in order to obtain quality images in a reproducible way. Ability to work efficiently and productively in a team environment and maintain good working relations with team members. Ability to follow radiation safety guidelines (ALARA) to limit dose exposures to self and others. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
International Society for Clinical Densitometry course certification for "Quality Bone Densitometry: Performance, Interpretation, and Clinical Application for Technologists."
