Doula Services

A non-clinical role which provides physical, emotional, and educational support services to pregnant individuals during the prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum periods. Assists clients and their families with accessing appropriate community resources. Assists with the coordination of group support programs and provides ongoing contact. Cultural competency and shared-life experiences with the client population is preferred. Must have reliable transportation and be able to drive to and from appointments. Essential Functions

Participates in community events and activities that promote the awareness of doula services and its impact on birth outcomes. Conducts person-centered face to face or telehealth visits with pregnant persons that includes promoting health literacy and knowledge, assisting with the development of a birth plan, supporting personal and cultural preferences around childbirth, providing emotional and support and encouraging self-advocacy, reinforcing practices known to promote positive outcomes such as breastfeeding, identifying and addressing social determinants of health, and coordinating referrals to community-based support services. Conducts person-centered face to face support during the pregnant persons' labor and delivery experience inclusive of providing continual physical comfort measures, information, and emotional support, advocating for beneficiary needs, and being an active member of the birth team. Conducts person-centered face to face or telehealth support during the postpartum period inclusive of education regarding newborn care, nutrition, and safety, supporting breastfeeding, providing emotional support and encouraging self-care measures, supporting beneficiary in attending recommended medical appointments, identifying and addressing social determinants of health, coordinating referrals to community-based support services. Communicates and collaborates with the clients and their families, program staff, and other professionals involved in the care of clients to coordinate services and to facilitate a supportive relationship between the client and their health care provider(s). Serves as a resource to program staff about situational and cultural factors impacting the client, family, and environment. Documents services as required by Medicaid policy and also including person-centered goals regarding birthplan and breastfeeding, and periodic evaluations of goals, education, and referrals to other support programs. Collects and documents program data and other necessary evaluation data to ensure timelines and accuracy. Discusses trends, challenges, and other issues regarding data collection with the Program Supervisor. Qualifications

Required High School Diploma or equivalent. 2 years of relevant experience Work experience as a doula; experience working with Medicaid families; experience working with pregnant and postpartum families; experience working as a community health worker; experience working in a home visiting program for pregnant families Required. Knowledge and use of community resources; social, health and public agencies and services. Required.
