Financial Aid Counselor

St. Bonaventure University is seeking applicants for the open position of Financial Aid Counselor. Provides accurate processing of financial aid applications and awards for the University's Office of Financial Aid. Actively counsels, advises and assists students and parents on financial aid and related processes. Supports other functions related to the successful administration of financial aid. Examples of Duties

Counsels and advises students about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, costs, money management, and individualizes information to the particular needs and situation of the students. Provide assistance to students and their parents, helping students obtain and complete applications for all financial aid programs administered by the University. Analyzes and maintains financial aid applications and records to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and University guidelines and standards; including Federal Pell and New York State TAP processing. Maintain knowledge of Federal, New York State, and University financial aid programs and technical aspects of administering such programs. Support the awarding new freshmen, transfer, and returning students financial aid, including coding, data entry, letters/mailing, and emails. Provide support to Admissions questions and inquiries. Responsible for the full administration of student loans, including certifying and monitoring Federal Subsidized/Unsubsidized Direct Loans, Parent Loans, and Alternative Loans; including exit counseling. Responsible for the lead with campus aid programs; Health Professions, Study Abroad, Say Yes, other tuition based award, questions and revisions, if required. Support OneStop operations. Handle highly confidential material, understanding that all University information should only be disclosed to others who have a need to know, for legitimate business or educational reasons. Have the ability to exercise and apply sound judgment and decision making skills as well as the ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality of data. Ability to balance priorities to accomplish assigned tasks within the required time frame and to be able to shift quickly between several tasks without loss of continuity. Ability to effectively express ideas effectively in oral and written form. Competence to compose and edit correspondence, proposals and reports that may require the ability to relay complex or adverse information with tact and diplomacy. Has knowledge to implement, develop, and maintain computer based business operations. Self-motivated to stay current with emerging office technologies and recommend and implement improvements. Ability to establish and nurture effective working relationships with associates, colleagues, students and members of the University staff. Maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff and other customers while fostering positive working relationships. Ability to accept and provide supervision, assignments, change and correction. Carry out all responsibilities and objectives in a professional manner. Adhere to the governing documents, policies and procedures established by St. Bonaventure University. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

Physically able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. While performing required job tasks, physically able to bend, crouch and reach. While performing required job tasks, physically able to remain seated, frequently to continuously. While performing required job tasks, physically able to remain standing up to 15% of the time. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform typing, operate a computer and other office equipment, to perform filing, and related job responsibilities. Typical Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred. Years of Experience: Professional experience in financial aid, banking, or accounting preferred. Possess strong customer service and organizational skills and have computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database management. Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check. Ability to travel as needed both locally and state wide (limited). Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Supplemental Information
