Employer: Tarpon Springs, City of (FL) Salary: $47,185.00 - $77,871.00 Annually Location: Public Works Job Type: Full-Time Department: Public Works Division: Fleet Maintenance Opening Date: 07/10/2025 Closing Date: 7/24/2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time (US & Canada) Description: Under general supervision, performs skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel powered automotive and utility vehicles, emergency vehicles, and related equipment. Assists with the administrative duties relating to the operation of Vehicle Maintenance. Duties include repairing, servicing and maintaining vehicles, responding to road calls and assisting in the maintenance of the department's inventory and recordkeeping systems. Examples of Duties: Services and maintains vehicles and equipment owned/leased by the City: Performs accurate general repairs and overhauls to a variety of automotive and related equipment, including but not limited to, repair and replacement of points spark plugs, bearings, transmissions, clutches, radiators, brakes, universal joints, differentials, electrical, air conditioning and hydraulic systems. Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, equipment and small engines in the City fleet to include but not limited to, changing tires, oil, grease, transmission fluid and antifreeze. Ensures safe practices are incorporated in all activities performed. Uses and maintains various types of equipment and tools in a safe manner. Road tests repaired equipment and apparatus to ensure proper operation. With the administrative duties relating to the operations of Fleet Maintenance: Processes and maintains, job orders and other records or documents that are related to the repair and service of the City's fleet or equipment that can, including but not limited to, inventory records, purchase orders, service records, work orders and general office correspondence by utilizing appropriate office procedures for approval and cost effectiveness. Participates in and assists as requested in the training/orientation of personnel within the department. Responds to emergency road calls in a safe and timely manner: Ensures that proper tools and equipment are brought in response vehicles. Utilizes safety measures, such as barricades, to secure a safe area at the response scene. Performs preliminary diagnosis at the scene and repairs any minor deficiencies at scene, and contacts appropriate personnel for transport coordination of an inoperable vehicle. Responds to emergency needs that may occur outside of normal working hours. Typical Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalency required. Vocational/technical school training in automotive repairs or related area is preferred. Experience in automotive/equipment repairs and maintenance preferred. Or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered at the City's discretion towards required experience. License and Certification: Valid Florida Drivers' License required. Valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brakes, Tanker and Passenger Endorsement, required within 180 days of employment. Possession and maintenance of Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification in areas/disciplines determined by the City is required within 2 years and thereafter from appointment to this position. The above requirements may be modified according to operational needs of the Vehicle Maintenance Division in order to provide necessary service to the City. This position is divided into two (2) different disciplines, Fire Apparatus and Law Enforcement Technician; the individual technician disciplines will be determined by the City's needs. Fire Apparatus Technician Requirements: Level 1

ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Exams; Suspension & Steering (T5) and Brakes (T4). 5% on top of starting pay. Employee must keep these certifications up to date to receive this pay incentive and the first tier must be acquired within 1 year of hire. Level 2

Level 1 plus two (2) EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Program) Exams; Maintenance, Inspection, and Testing of Fire Apparatus (F1) and Design & Performance Standards of Fire Apparatus (F2). 5% pay over level 1 pay for a total of 10% above starting pay, this tier must be acquired with 2 years of hire and the employee must keep these certifications up to date to receive this pay incentive. At this level the technician will have obtained "Level I Fire Apparatus Technician" Level 3

Levels 1-2 plus 3 additional ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Exams; Truck Diesel Engines (T2), Truck Drive Train (T3) and Truck Electrical Systems (T6). 5% pay over level 2 pay for a total of 15% above starting pay and the employee must keep these certifications up to date to receive this pay incentive. Level 4

Levels 1-3 plus two (2) EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Program) Exams; Fire Pumps & Accessories (F3) and Fire Apparatus Electrical Systems (F4) 5% pay over level 3 pay for a total of 20% above starting pay and the employee must keep these certifications up to date to receive this pay incentive. At this level the technician will have obtained "Level II Fire Apparatus Technician" Level 5

Levels 1-4 plus 3 additional ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Exams; Truck Gasoline Engines (T1), Truck Heating and Air Conditioning (T7) and Truck Preventive Maintenance Inspection (T8). 5% pay over level 4 pay for a total of 25% above starting pay and the employee must keep these certifications up to date to receive this pay incentive. Level 6 - EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Program) Aerial Fire Apparatus (F5) and Allison Automatic Transmissions (F6). 5% pay over level 5 pay for a total of 30% above starting pay and the employee must keep these certifications up to date to receive this pay incentive. At this level the technician will have obtained "Level III Master Fire Apparatus Technician" Law Enforcement Vehicle Installation Technician Requirements: Level 1

ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Automobile & Light Truck Certification Exams; Electrical Systems (A-6) and Brakes (A-5). 5% on top of starting pay. Employee must keep these certifications up to date to receive this pay incentive and the first tier must be acquired within 1 year of hire. Level 2

Level 1 plus two (2) ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Automobile & Light Truck Certification Exams; Suspension and Steering (A-4) and Heating & Air Conditioning (A-7). 5% pay over level 1 pay for a total of 10% above starting pay and the employee must keep these certifications up to date to receive this pay incentive. Level 3

Levels 1-2 plus two (2) ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Automobile & Light Truck Certification Exams; Engine Repair (A-1) and Engine Performance (A8). 5% pay over level 2 pay for a total of 15% above starting and the employee must keep these certifications up to date to receive this pay incentive. Level 4 - Levels 1-3 plus EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Program) Exam; L-1 Law Enforcement Vehicle Installation. 5% pay over level 3 pay for a total of 20% above starting pay and the employee must keep these certifications up to date to receive this pay incentive. Level 5

Levels 1-4 plus two (2) remaining ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Automobile & Light Truck Certification Exams; Auto Transmission/Transaxle (A2), Manual Drive Train & Axles (A3). 5% pay over level 4 pay for a total of 25% above starting pay.
