Project Manager Opportunity At United Steel
Join United Steel, New England's largest fabricator and erector of structural steel and miscellaneous metals! We are currently looking to add a Project Manager to our team due to strong sales. The role of the Project Manager is to plan, direct, and coordinate activities of designated projects to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters while protecting the long-term interest of the company and achieving the customer's satisfaction. Duties & Responsibilities Solidifying United Steel's good name and building and maintaining relationships with clients, project managers, project superintendents, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors. Vetting and transferring all knowledge of a project to the project manager and team. Managing your team and situations to the benefit of the company, building and maintaining customer relationships, and maximizing profits. Proactively anticipating, preparing for, and resolving situations that may become issues in the future. Ensuring all subcontracts & purchase agreements are put in place and in conformance with the requirements of the project documents. Acting as a liaison between detailers, architects and engineers, while documenting any communication that affects schedule, price, changes, special agreements and/or RFI's. Ensuring all communications, both internally and externally, are followed through in a manner that guarantees all necessary vendors, suppliers, engineers, detailers, as well as shop and field management are preceding accordingly to plans and schedules. Expediting all Change Orders through the necessary departments as well as RFI's and submittals to clients, without delay. Following up on submitted Change Orders to ensure the prompt resolution of same. Reviewing project status with financial information and reconciling all discrepancies. Reviewing and approving all project invoices from detailers, erectors, and outside vendors. Preparing and submitting timely and accurate billing of customer on a monthly basis. Ensuring constant and consistent follow up with field operations. Traveling to project sites for weekly/bi-weekly job meetings and coordinating with customer, design team, and other subcontractors. Developing and maintaining project schedules in conformance with contract requirements. Coordinating deliveries from the shop and vendors, ensuring that they are timely and within planned schedules. Maintaining internal procedural communication methods. Responsible for project closeout and all necessary information as it relates to billing and documentation. Assisting the Director of Project Management in the development of policies and procedures. Carrying out supervisory responsibilities. Following United Steel's and Project Site Safety Rules. Projects managed can be complex and may require additional attention to detail, coordination of, and/or travel to site for verification conditions and/or field measuring. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may be required to perform other duties to meet the ongoing needs of the project and the organization. Qualifications 7+ years of experience in project management preferably with at least 5 years project managing in the steel fabrication/erection industry. Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering a plus. Self-starter, able to build and work well within team environments, as well as being able to work independently. Pro-active: Strong sense of urgency with ability to work through bid process and project demands. Strong attention to detail; able to multitask and manage time effectively. Basic math and technical writing skills required; must have both good oral and written communication skills. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project Management Software, and pdf editors. Excellent ability to develop interpersonal relationships and communication with all levels in the organization, customers, and vendors; proven ability to influence and motivate others, must be able to deal with ambiguity and various change requirements. Must be a problem-solver, able to work in and encourage a collaborative environment and to perform professionally with a positive outlook in continuous situations. Local Travel Required 25% - 40%. Must pass criminal background check and drug test.
