The GeauxTeach Master Teacher is a 10-month full-time teaching/staff position in the LSU College of Science GeauxTeach Program. Primary responsibilities are teaching (50%) and service to the GeauxTeach Program (50%). Quality math and science teachers are in high demand. GeauxTeach allows students to pursue an undergraduate degree in biology, chemistry, mathematics or physics AND earn secondary teaching certification at the same time. Job Duties 50% TEACHING
25% The employee acts as instructor of record for SCI 2010 and 2011 courses, including responsibility for field placements, observation and evaluation of field experiences; coordinates with other master teachers for consistency across multiple sections. The employee also assists in other courses in the GeauxTeach program and supports students in math department courses.
25% The employee acts as university supervisor for candidates in residency (EDCI 4006).
50% GeauxTeach Program Service 30% The employee develops and manages the GeauxTeach Induction Support System. Primary responsibilities include scheduling and directing activities for recent graduates, visiting and advising recent graduates, assuring the wellness of GeauxTeach graduates in the first year of service, cooperating with the Responsive Mentor Team, and maintaining contact with all GeauxTeach graduates.
10% Works with other Master Teacher and Program Manager with recruitment efforts, specifically networking with local secondary school principals.
10% This includes additional time devoted to any of the above responsibilities, teaching and service falling outside this list, participation in professional activities and meetings and time devoted to professional development.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in mathematics or related field
Minimum 5 years of experience as a certified high school mathematics teacher
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in mathematics or Natural Sciences with specialization in mathematics
Experience in Cain Center programs such as Pathways or Dual Enrollment
18 hours of graduate mathematics courses
Special Qualifications: Master Teachers are proven, excellent teachers, leaders, writers, and presenters. They are knowledgeable about current research in how people learn and the challenges novice and veteran teachers face in the classroom. In addition, a Master Teacher demonstrates mastery of science content and pedagogical knowledge, as evidenced by a proven record teaching high school science courses, which may include dual enrollment and AP, effectively using reform- and inquiry-based instructional strategies. Day travel to local schools to make observations of our students in field experiences is required. Additional Requirements: Vehicle Operation - University employees whose principal responsibilities of employment include operating a vehicle, performing maintenance on a vehicle, or supervising any public employee who operates or maintains a vehicle and positions with an expectation to travel will require an MVR and are subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
Minor Contact - This position and/or position's responsibilities require work directly with minors. Finger printing and National Sex Offender Registry check required per FASOP HR-04.
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center.
