Foster Care Worker

Beaufort County Department of Social Services is hiring for a Foster Care Worker position in Washington, NC. The job is full-time and the salary is to be seen in the position description. The position closes on July 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM Eastern Time (US & Canada). The hiring salary is $50,045, with a rate of $52,547 after a successful 12-month probationary period. A Master's of Social Work degree is preferred, and a Bachelor's degree in social work or a human services field is required. Additionally, one year of directly related experience is needed, or two years of directly related experience without a bachelor's degree. The job duties include licensing and re-licensing Foster Care Homes according to state policy and licensing requirements, recruiting and training interested persons for foster parenting, and monitoring out-of-state foster children and maintaining a small caseload. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices is required, along with knowledge of psychosocial, socioeconomic, and behavioral problems and their treatment. Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and community resources is also necessary. Fluency in Spanish is considered a plus. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in social work or a human services field from an accredited institution, along with one year of directly related experience, or two years of directly related experience without a bachelor's degree. Health insurance is provided through the North Carolina State Health Plan for Teachers and State Employees, administered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of NC. The plan includes options for 80/20 and 70/30 cost-sharing, with varying copayments, deductibles, and coinsurance maximums. Delta Dental and life insurance/accidental death and dismemberment are also provided. The NC Local Government Employees' Retirement System includes a 6% deduction from the employee's pay, with the county contributing an actuarially determined amount. Eligible employees may receive a death benefit after one year of service, ranging from $25,000 to $50,000. Longevity increases are provided at 5-year intervals, starting at 1.5% and increasing thereafter. Work hours are 8:00-5:00 Monday through Friday, with a 40-hour work week, and potential for overtime and on-call hours. Sick leave, personal leave, and holiday schedules are provided in accordance with the state schedule.
