Farm Worker Rights Division Outreach Coordinator
Colorado Legal Services (CLS) is Colorado's statewide nonprofit legal aid program, with thirteen offices providing civil legal assistance to low-income Coloradans throughout the state. CLS provides free legal assistance in a broad variety of legal areas, including family law, public benefits, eviction defense, consumer protection, services to survivors of serious crime and human trafficking, and many others. The Farm Worker Rights Division (FW R D) provides free civil legal assistance to low-income farm workers throughout Colorado in employment law matters. As part of its work, FW R D employs a robust outreach and community education component. The FW R D seeks to inform workers about their legal rights and how they can exercise those rights through in-person outreach to workers, printed materials, online resources, other media (print and radio), and interactive presentations. The Outreach Coordinator is primarily responsible for the outreach component within FW R D with the participation of attorneys, paralegals, and interns. While this position is grant-funded for two years only, renewal might be possible in two years depending on funding. Essential Duties
Utilize the FW R D's established practices to conduct outreach to farm workers around Colorado through various means, including visiting labor camps, attending outreach events, utilizing social media, and working in collaboration with community partners. Build and maintain relationships with trusted community partners who also serve farm workers such as promotores, community groups, migrant education, and health programs. This includes representing the FWRD at outreach events and meetings with trusted partners and keeping other FWRD staff informed. Maintain FW R D data systems used to track outreach to workers and community partners. Develop and implement mass media community education about farm workers' rights and resources for farm workers, utilizing print and social media. Assist with summer outreach planning and supervising interns and volunteers who conduct outreach. Assist in the development of presentations/trainings for advocates, farm workers, and partners on issues related to the FW R D's priorities for farm worker education. This includes handling logistics and overseeing the setup and execution of events. Assist in the day-to-day operations of the unit, including answering the phone and screening potential clients and occasionally conducting intakes. As such, the Outreach Coordinator will participate in weekly staffing of potential cases. Develop expertise in the legal rights of farm workers in order to provide legal information (with input and direction from the Managing Attorney), without providing legal advice. Perform other duties as assigned by Managing Attorney. Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED. Fluent in written and oral Spanish and English. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and attention to detail. Ability to organize and manage multifaceted workload and to meet deadlines. Ability to use established systems, while also exploring innovative ways to improve and streamline existing systems. Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently, think innovatively, and collaborate with others. Commitment to advocacy in the interest and passion for social justice. Sensitivity to the legal needs of low-income individuals, seniors, individuals with disabilities, People of Color, and individuals who do not speak English or with limited English proficiency. Excellent customer service skills when answering calls to the FWRD main line. Comfort with technology including Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Zoom. Proficient in digital content creation tools (i.e., Canva or Photoshop). Valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle for travel across the state. Ability to travel to conduct in-person outreach which may involve some overnight trips, and have the ability to work at least one evening per week and some weekends for part of the year. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds in order to transport outreach supplies. Reside in the State of Colorado (or be willing to relocate to Colorado as a condition of employment). Preferred Qualifications
Personal or professional experience with community outreach, farm workers, or other low-income workers. Experience with popular education, theater, or radio programming, especially for low-literacy adults. Experience with website design and/or GIS mapping software. Associate degree and/or bachelor's degree. Compensation and Benefits
We offer a generous plan that includes 100% employer paid premiums for employee health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance, as well as partial employer paid premiums for spouses/dependents, based on a sliding scale.
