Job DescriptionJob Overview: A Hospital Pharmacy Technician - Qualified is a healthcare professional who plays an integral role in pharmacy operations. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the pharmacy technician assists in the distribution of medications to patients across inpatient, outpatient, emergency room, and operating room units. Responsibilities include selecting, counting, compounding, packing, labeling, and delivering medications. Proficiency in accessing and viewing electronic health records and utilizing pharmacy automated systems is required. Pharmacy technicians will work in multiple areas of the pharmacy to maintain competency and broaden their skill set. Applicants must complete an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or begin a Pharmacy Technician Trainee program within 6 months of hire and complete the program within 18 months of initial registration. Location: Good Samaritan Hospital at 375 Dixmyth Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45220 Work Hours: Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly Day shift Weekend and holiday rotation Job Requirements: High School Degree or GED New hires must register and be active with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee prior to the start date, OR have an active Registered Pharmacy Technician registration Applicants must complete an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or begin a Pharmacy Technician Trainee program within 6 months of hire and complete the program no greater than 18 months of initial registration date. Job Responsibilities: Assist and train with the pharmacist in non-sterile medication preparation, including selecting, counting, compounding, packaging, scanning, labeling, filling, and delivering medications per department guidelines Unit Dose: Select the appropriate medications and accurately label them Non-sterile compounding: Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients using proper calculations, equipment, and techniques Automated Dispensing Machines: Sign in, load/refill/unload, outdate, and resolve discrepancies Stock Orders/Emergency Carts/Boxes: Accurately fill in a timely manner Efficiently transport medications from the pharmacy to other areas (tubing, cart delivery, IV Run, STAT, etc.), ensuring correct delivery and appropriate storage Responsible for inventory control, stock rotation, removal of expired medications, reordering/stocking of medications and supplies, and safe storage of medications Maintain accurate controlled substances (CII-CV) inventory and review controlled substance records, reporting unresolved discrepancies to a supervisor Optimize workflow by efficiently completing job duties, prioritizing workload, and using good technical and procedural judgment Assist with other duties as necessary for efficient pharmacy operations, showing initiative and flexibility Use pharmacy technology appropriately, maintain pharmacy automation, and troubleshoot/report issues Access patient information, process in-basket Rx messages, and print labels in the Electronic Health Record Respond politely and professionally to requests from pharmacists, nursing staff, physicians, patients, and others Assist in training new employees Working Conditions: Climbing: Rarely Concentrating: Consistently Continuous Learning: Consistently Hearing (Conversation): Consistently Hearing (Other Sounds): Consistently Interpersonal Communication: Consistently Kneeling: Occasionally Lifting (
