The laboratory of Dr. Jacob Kohlmeier at Emory University is seeking a Research Specialist to join our group and contribute to our research on cellular immunity to respiratory viruses. The position will primarily involve hands-on viral immunology research using human samples and animal models of influenza and parainfluenza virus infections. Typical skills used in our laboratory include isolation of immune cells from tissues, in vitro cell culture, viral plaque assays, high-parameter flow cytometry, single cell genomics, and in vivo imaging. Training in these techniques will be provided. Additional responsibilities include assistance with day-to-day operations of the lab and maintenance of animal colonies. The ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team is essential. Key responsibilities: Performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules. Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator. Participates in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation. Maintains records, files, and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases. Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants, and seminar presentations. May be required to work with, take specific precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a scientific field or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, or a related field. Familiarity with modern immunology, virology, and/or molecular biology techniques is preferred. Note: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.
