Senior Scientist, Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease

ProFound Therapeutics is discovering proteins hidden within the expanded human proteome to uncover novel drugs and drug targets, producing first-in-class medicines for a multitude of diseases. The company's ProFoundry Platform uses state-of-the-art protein detection technologies to systematically identify and validate proteins and dissect their therapeutic potential. The result is an ever-expanding database of tens of thousands of novel proteins, including their connectivity, functionality, and roles in health and disease. ProFound Therapeutics was founded in 2020 by Flagship Pioneering. We are seeking an exceptional Scientist or Senior Scientist to lead and support discovery efforts in Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease. This role will contribute to shaping our early-stage pipeline, bringing scientific leadership and creativity to target validation and translational biology. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in cardiovascular or metabolic disease biology, a passion for novel biology, and experience designing and executing mechanistic studies that bridge in vitro and in vivo models. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role with the opportunity to work closely with platform scientists, computational biologists, and drug discovery teams to identify and advance novel targets into drug development. Key Responsibilities

Drive discovery research in cardiovascular and/or metabolic disease areas by designing, executing, and interpreting mechanistic studies using state-of-the-art models and technologies. Lead target validation efforts informed by proteomic and computational insights; develop hypotheses and prioritize targets with high translational potential. Collaborate with computational biology and proteomics teams to interpret large-scale datasets (e.g., proteomic, transcriptomic, genetic) and generate novel biological insights. Design and oversee in vitro and in vivo models of disease to support target biology, biomarker development, and proof-of-concept studies. Contribute to building and refining the company's therapeutic strategy in CVD/metabolic disease. Communicate findings clearly and effectively in cross-functional team meetings, external collaborations, and presentations to leadership. Support or lead external academic and industry collaborations. Qualifications

Required: Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Biology, Metabolism, Physiology, Cell Biology, or a related field; postdoctoral training or industry experience strongly preferred. 2+ years (Scientist) or 5+ years (Senior Scientist) of relevant postdoctoral or industry experience. Deep understanding of disease mechanisms and translational models in one or more areas: atherosclerosis, heart failure, diabetes, NASH, obesity, lipid metabolism, etc. Hands-on expertise in cellular/molecular biology techniques (e.g., CRISPR, ELISA, qPCR, Western blotting, RNAseq) and assay development. Experience with in vitro and/or in vivo models of cardiometabolic disease. Ability to integrate multi-omic or genetic data into experimental design. Strong track record of scientific contributions (publications, patents, presentations). Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Preferred: Experience working in early-stage biotech or drug discovery environments. Familiarity with target identification and validation processes. Experience with human tissue samples, iPSC-derived systems, or organoid models is a plus. Values and Behaviors We are seeking individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit, strong communication skills, and comfort working in and contributing to a dynamic and cross-functional team environment. The level of the role will be commensurate with the education and years of experience of the identified candidate. At Flagship, we recognize there is no perfect candidate. If you have some of the experience listed above but not all, please apply anyway. Experience comes in many forms, skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way. We are dedicated to building diverse and inclusive teams and look forward to learning more about your unique background. Flagship Pioneering is committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status.
