Under close supervision, this position assures the safety and treatment of patients and functions as the entry level of the Behavioral Health Assistant job class series. This position provides support to patients receiving behavioral health services by primarily conducting one-to-one patient sitting, virtual sitting, and floating to the mental health unit. The role involves direct patient care, facilitating communication and collaboration within the healthcare team, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and participating in education, training, and other duties as assigned. It is expected that this position will always interact therapeutically with patients. BHA II:

This position provides support to patients receiving behavioral health services by primarily conducting one-to-one patient sitting, virtual sitting, and working on or floating to the mental health unit. The role involves direct patient care, facilitating communication and collaboration within the healthcare team, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and participating in education, training, and other duties as assigned. It is expected that this position will always interact therapeutically with patients. Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
BHA I:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must obtain 10 hours of education related to Mental Health and/or addictions within four (4) months of hire and annually. Experience:
One year of experience working directly with the public providing a service or six months of experience working with patients in a health care or behavioral health capacity. Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with individuals who experience mental health, addiction, or behavioral health challenges. Substitution:
A minimum of 12 college credits in Psychology, Sociology, Mental Health, or Chemical Dependency can be substituted for the required year of experience. License(s):
Valid driver's license required if assigned to perform patient transport duties. Certification(s): BLS within 90 days of hire Workplace Violence Prevention training within 90 days of hire BHA II:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must obtain 10 hours of education related to Mental Health and/or addictions within four (4) months of hire and annually. Experience:
Minimum of one year of experience as a BHA I or similar job position at Bartlett Regional Hospital or other healthcare facility. Must have the skills, knowledge, and competency to advance to BHA II from BHA I. Substitution:
A minimum of 12 college credits in Psychology, Sociology, Mental Health, or Chemical Dependency can be substituted for the required year of experience. License(s):
Valid driver's license required if assigned to perform patient transport duties. Certification(s): BLS within 90 days of hire Workplace Violence Prevention training within 90 days of hire Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms. External Hires: Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based upon relevant experience. BHA I starts at $22.40 hourly. BHA II starts at $23.52 hourly. Practice Notices: All new employees are required to produce a negative drug screen for all illegal substances in the State of Alaska prior to start of employment.
