Schafer Labs Research Position

Join the Schafer labs in the Department of Neurobiology at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts. Our multidisciplinary research team focuses on neural-immune interactions and how these interactions modulate neural circuit function in health and disease. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to study mechanisms of how T cells modulate resident brain cells during neuroinflammation. Applicant must have (or expect to obtain shortly) a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or related field. Experience with Neuroimmunology and/or Immunology is highly preferred. Proficiency in mouse models of disease and cell culture techniques are desired. The candidate is expected to work closely with an interdisciplinary research team and must be motivated to acquire new experimental skills. It is increasingly appreciated that T cells exist in the brain and this is amplified during neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. Our goal is to identify how T cells interact with other brain cell types to regulate the neural-immune environment in the brain. The host lab has a vibrant culture that supports academic research. Sufficient funding has been obtained to fully support the proposed research. UMass Chan Medical School is a highly collaborative institution with minimal barriers to collaboration across disciplines. The Neuroscience and Immunology communities both have outstanding resources using the most cutting-edge research tools and models.
