The work we do matters! Hiring Agency: Retirement Systems - Agency 85 Location: Lincoln, NE Hiring Rate: $17.956 We are seeking a dedicated Accountant I to join our team. Under the supervision of the Controller, generally, this position is responsible for processing all of NPERS' accounts payable, including State and Federal taxes. They also provide back-up to other members of the team. During your first year here at NPERS, you'll receive 13 paid holidays per year, you can earn 12 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave, have your retirement contributions matched at 156%, and 79% of your medical insurance premiums are paid by your employer. Enter, analyze, review/pre-audit, and approve various expenditure payment types, journal entries, deposits, and other AP and AR transactions as needed. Generate, extract, compile, organize, and analyze financial data from vouchers, ledgers, journals, and other accounting documents and databases to develop and prepare spreadsheets, reports, statements and other financial documents or files. Assist members of the financial support team including the Budget Analysts. Sort and file and/or retrieve correspondence, records, reports, invoices, vouchers, and other documents to ensure uniform storage and ready access to information. This position will communicate with vendors, agency personnel, and other agencies to answer inquiries and clarify any matters that may be in question. This position will also communicate with members of all retirement plans concerning benefit payments, refunds, and rollovers to other institutions. Prepare Federal and State Withholding Tax documents. Track withholding taxes for all retirement plans. Monitor outstanding warrant list. Correspond with members, staff and other public servants of the State of Nebraska. Provide backup to Accountant I and Administrative Technician (Accounting Assistant) that work with School Reporting Agents. Other duties, as assigned. Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework or vocational education in accounting, finance, business administration or related field OR experience performing accounting functions including interpreting and analyzing financial data. Knowledge, skills & abilities: Professional accounting principles, theories and practices. Word processing and spreadsheet computer software programs and computerized accounting software. Effectively communicate with other public servants and retirement plan members. Ability to manage data, analyze information, and recommend process improvements. Skilled in operating office equipment and maintaining organized records. Benefits
