Payroll Analyst
The Talent Strategy & Operations team within Human Resources is seeking a Payroll Analyst. Under minimal guidance, performs a variety of functions in the preparation, processing, maintenance, verification and reconciliation for the calculation of accurate wages and salaries, employee leave information, payroll records and payments of withholdings. Provides expertise on continuous process improvement strategies. Assists with overseeing the daily operations of payroll processing and may be assigned project work in other disciplines of Human Resources or Finance. This position is hybrid (60% in office; 40% remote) located in Columbus, OH. Responsibilities
Provides expertise for payroll functions, including standard and special payments leveraging the appropriate systems. Balances controls of payroll wages, deductions and taxes for audit requirements. Reviews all payrolls and reconciles back to source documents. Examines numerical, statistical or financial records or reports for accuracy and completeness; responsible for verifying the accuracy and appropriateness of charges to accounts. Verifies and controls payroll payments to comply with established organization procedures. Researches complex payroll errors and takes or directs corrective action. Overseas calculations of overtime and shift differentials for payment; performs general benefit calculations from third party benefit system. Assists other departments and staff compiling data. Researches and analyzes accounting discrepancies and processes appropriate corrections. Researches and responds to employee inquiries. Audits, reconciles and balances a variety of data and transactions. Suggest and prepare updates of policies and procedures. Assist Payroll/Tax leads with implementation of new procedures and system setup. Assist with instructions to non-exempt staff for retention/disposal of information. Key Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years of direct experience in payroll operations and procedures including multiple payrolls. Knowledge of applicable Federal/State payroll laws, methods and practices for multi-state payrolls. BA or BS degree in Business or Accounting, CPP Certified Payroll Professional status desired. Knowledge of general accounting principles and skills utilizing payroll/accounting software applications. Ability to resolve non-recurring problems with proven as well as novel and creative solutions. Highly effective customer services skills. Positive written/verbal communications and collaboration skills. Proficiency using Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel. Must be U.S. Person by definition of U.S. Export Laws.
