The Access to Achievement Advisor will work directly with students, caregivers, and RichmondCC staff in support of the Access to Achievement Initiative. This role focuses primarily on serving students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), creating a strong intra-college support system to promote academic success and guide career planning throughout the student's educational journey. Responsibilities include: Interview students and/or parents to establish interests and goals and assess students for eligibility into the IDD program or other programs of study. Guide perspective students through the admissions process which includes assisting with online applications, RDS (Residency Determination Services) applications, testing, and FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) applications. Present and develop career pathway options based on student interests using written materials, tours, meetings with program/department heads. These options might include Career and College Readiness (CCR) programs, Continuing Education programs, and/or Curriculum programs. Work with Deans and/or Program Directors to expand inclusive certifications, micro credentials, and employability skills training opportunities for students with IDD. Assist students with clarifying their career and academic goals and developing an individualized educational plan. Advise and register first time and returning students. Make appropriate referrals to campus resources for students perceived as at-risk. Schedule check-ins at least twice per semester with students for entirety of student's enrollment in college courses and following up with instructors on each student's progress as needed. Inform students of campus events, opportunities, and activities providing a personal incitation to students to participate in these activities, advocating for inclusion of students in all aspects of college and campus life. Coordinate with College marketing and outreach efforts to actively recruit students and network with community agencies. Collaborate with the implementation team to support the planning, coordination, and execution of inclusive education initiatives and services. Act as a dedicated advocate and liaison to champion the recruitment and meaningful engagement of students with IDDs. Develop partnership with workforce development staff, community agencies, and local employers to assist in pursuit of employment for students. Partner student with peer mentor, employers, and campus activities including by not limited to internships and employment opportunities. Supervise and train student job coaches. Track student outcomes for at least six months after separation from college services and submit required reports to NCCCS and other outcomes as determined locally. Attend professional development activities as requested/approved/required by the Vice President for Student Services. Other duties. (Willingness to accept and fulfill additional assignments.) Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the institution with special reference to the total fulfillment of the open-door policy. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to meet and deal effectively with diverse populations, specifically adults with disabilities. Demonstrate empathy and understanding for the adult learner. Qualified applicants should have skills in critical analysis, record keeping experience, the ability to evaluate and organize data, develop documents, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365. Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree required. Experience in student counseling, advising, special education or working with adult populations with IDDs. Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must have a desire to help students in their academic journey, from enrollment to completion. Prefer master's degree or three years of experience.
