The Specimen Processor/Lab Aide in Microbiology plays a crucial role in the laboratory by ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of biological specimens. This position is essential for maintaining the integrity of samples, which directly impacts the quality of diagnostic results. The individual will work closely with laboratory technologists and pathologists to prepare specimens for analysis, ensuring that all protocols are followed meticulously. Attention to detail and adherence to safety standards are paramount, as the role involves handling potentially hazardous materials. Ultimately, the Specimen Processor/Lab Aide contributes to the overall mission of the laboratory by supporting timely and accurate diagnoses that aid in patient care. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in a laboratory setting or relevant coursework in biology or microbiology. Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in a related field such as medical laboratory technology or microbiology. Previous experience in specimen processing or laboratory aide roles. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7pm-3am, with 10% shift pay differential after 9pm (may have flexibility to consider other schedules) Responsibilities: Receive and log specimens into the laboratory information system, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation. Prepare specimens for analysis by performing necessary processing steps, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and labeling. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all safety and health regulations. Assist laboratory personnel with routine tasks, including inventory management and equipment maintenance. Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to ensure smooth workflow and address any issues that arise. Skills: The required skills for this position include strong attention to detail, which is essential for accurately processing and documenting specimens. Organizational skills are vital for maintaining an orderly workspace and managing multiple tasks efficiently. Communication skills are necessary for collaborating with team members and ensuring that all procedures are followed correctly. Preferred skills, such as familiarity with laboratory equipment and protocols, enhance the candidate's ability to contribute effectively from day one.
