The City of Eustis is seeking a trustworthy, responsible individual who, under direction, performs responsible routine to moderately complex bookkeeping, clerical and technical work involving the maintenance of City financial and accounting records. The employee works with initiative and independence within the clearly defined limits of accounting policies and procedures. Examples of Machines, Tools and Equipment Used: General office and computer equipment Supervision Received: Finance Director or designee Essential Job Functions
Duties may include some or all of the following job functions: Prepares journal entries, as required, on daily, monthly and annual transactions; Reconciles clearing accounts and post the transfers to the proper general ledger accounts; Receives and properly codes monies collected by the City; Prepares deposits; Invoices miscellaneous accounts receivable and notes receivable; Maintains appropriate schedules on balance sheet accounts for the various funds of the City and provides schedules for auditing and budgeting; Verifies accuracy of computer printouts; Prepares and reconciles bank accounts; Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports, as required; Assists in various functions of inventoried fixed assets and coordinates auctions, as needed; Assists in processing insurance claims; Maintains records; Provides information to the public and other divisions, as needed; Processes accounts payable on a weekly basis including monthly procurement and gas cards and Visa statements; Performs other related duties as required. Other Job Functions: Assists in preparing special projects; May serve as back-up to the Payroll Manager, if needed; Assists the City in the preparation and aftermath of a major emergency such as a hurricane or other storm or disaster, as needed. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles and procedures and ability to adapt these to governmental accounting; knowledge of data processing and computer operations including familiarity with computers and related software; knowledge of modern office practices and procedures Skill to type at least 35 CWPM; intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Excel; skill in the use of general office equipment, including computers, printers, scanners, copiers, etc. Ability to learn the laws, rules, guidelines and regulations applicable to governmental accounting; ability to maintain close attention to detail in balancing and summarizing records; ability to work well with others and assist the public cooperatively and courteously; ability to remain at a city work shelter, before, during and after a hurricane or other storm or disaster, if asked. Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree from an accredited college in Accounting or other related field; supplemented by two (2) years responsible experience in an accounting or business-related environment, to include experience as a full charge bookkeeper; must be proficient on various software programs including Microsoft Word and Excel. Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required. Working Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Supplemental Information
Physical Demands: This is primarily sedentary work; however, if assigned to the inventory control aspects of job, some physical effort is required including ability to perform heavy lifting up to 35+ pounds; ability to bend, reach and stoop; ability to drive a vehicle. Outside the inventory control aspects of the position, the job requires sitting for long periods of time; bending and reaching; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight, hearing and speech; ability to walk short distances and stand for moderate periods of time. Salary Information: $18.9233 to $26.9227 per hour ($39,360.42 - $55,999.15 annually); EXCELLENT benefits (Note: Benefit information is posted on city website at
