Job DescriptionAs a pharmacy technician III, in a hospital setting, provides specialized services in accordance with department procedures, which may be related to the procurement, preparation, distribution, and storage of drugs, as well as the provision of clinical pharmacy services according to the Pharmacy's role in ensuring safe medication use. Competent in all tasks associated with Pharmacy Technician Level I and II. Must achieve and maintain certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Coordinates technician staff and activities and/or is responsible for specific advanced duties. Serve as a resource to both pharmacy and nursing staff for issues and questions. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and according to professional standards and practices.ResponsibilitiesPrepares sterile medications, including hazardous and investigational drugs, using aseptic and negative-pressure techniques in accordance with guidelines on the preparation of hazardous drugsOversees pharmaceutical and supply inventory managementMaintain medication kits and dispensing units in various clinics to ensure inventory accountability and within-date usePerform and run reports related to medication use and critically assess needs for restocking, use, expiration, or drug returnResponsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the cleanroomTrain and assess competencies of Pharmacy Tech I & II associatesSuccessfully perform annual re-assessment of skills related to the preparation of sterile compounds (both hazardous and non-hazardous)Responsible for the proper handling and receipt of hazardous and investigational drugs in line with national recommendations and site policiesOther duties as assignedQualificationsConsiderable knowledge of drug names, medical terminology, and pharmaceutical calculations.Ability to operate and care for automated dispensing devices and equipmentRequires critical thinking skills with the ability to implement solutionsStrong organizational skills, including staying focused on assigned tasks and using time and resources effectively and efficiently to achieve job expectations.Excellent customer service skills including prioritizing the needs of patients and multidisciplinary team members while displaying empathy in all interactions to ensure complete satisfactionExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to work in situations involving uncertainty and rapid changeA solid customer service acumen to effectively work with both internal and external customers and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.Proficient computer skills.High school diploma or equivalent, or Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program, or Completion/Graduate of a formal Pharmacy Technician Curriculum through an accredited body - may have experience meeting state requirements and at least 2 years' of experience as an admixture technicianAbout UsBenefits Overview UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Time Off - A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options: Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire. Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken. Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment. Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year.
