Automotive Mechanic I
The Hawaii State Department of Education is offering a job opportunity for an Automotive Mechanic I. The salary for this position is $6,079.00 per month. The salary range for this position is $6,079.00 per month. Examples Of Duties
The duties include repairing broken, worn, and otherwise damaged mechanical and electrical parts of motorized equipment in trucks, automobiles, bulldozers, motor graders, cranes, or rollers and making the necessary adjustments to keep such equipment in a satisfactory working condition. This also includes replacing broken, worn, and defective parts such as gears, shafts, and bearings, making adjustments to correct faults, and disassembling parts of the vehicles to examine them for wear, breaks, and other undesirable characteristics. Additionally, the role involves instructing a group of automotive mechanic helpers or wards or inmates as part of an organized apprenticeship program and teaching them the techniques of the trade. Minimum Qualifications
The applicant must possess four (4) years of full-time work experience in or successful completion of a four (4)-year apprenticeship program for auto mechanic in motor equipment repair work under a journeyman mechanic or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledge of practices, tools, materials, and equipment used in the automotive mechanic trade; shop practices and methods; occupational hazards and safety measures applicable to the trade; principles of internal combustion engines and automotive parts and adjustment of specific types and makes of motorized equipment and accessories is required. The ability to operate motorized equipment, estimate material, parts, and labor necessary to perform an overhaul job, operate the various machines and equipment used in adjusting, maintaining, and repairing motorized equipment, locate and adjust mechanical defects, and make necessary repairs to motorized equipment; do welding and simple sheet metal and blacksmith work; make working sketches and drawings; and give and receive both oral and written instructions is also necessary. The applicant must be able to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and lift/carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment. A valid, current driver's license is required. Supplemental Information
The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable. Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Temporary assignment experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements must be verified and attached to the application using one of the options below: a copy of the applicant's TA History Report or equivalent system-generated report; a signed letter from the applicant's supervisor that includes the applicant's name, his/her TA job title, the TA start and end dates (from mm/yy to mm/yy), his/her specific TA duties performed, and either the TA hours worked per week or total TA hours worked; or copies of the applicant's signed SF-10 Forms. All submitted documents become the property of the Hawaii State Department of Education. Temporary positions may be extended year to year, dependent upon funding and departmental needs. A person hired for a temporary position may also become a temporary employee upon satisfactory completion of the initial probation period of at least six months.
