We showcase the expertise of Times journalists on-camera, share urgent news updates, produce on-the-ground reporting, pioneering Visual Investigations, and video podcasts. The Video department is looking for a Supervising Producer to oversee all aspects of video news and enterprise coverage on Saturdays and Sundays. You will coordinate, plan and execute both breaking news and planned events, and program and curate our short-form video journalism. We're looking for an experienced manager, thoughtful storyteller and excellent collaborator. You have impeccable news judgement and can work autonomously to identify critical stories, vet reporting, and structure powerful video both on and off platform. A track record of making sound editorial decisions and a keen eye for stories that must be told in video is essential. You will also be responsible for deciding the order and importance of our video journalism content on our site and app. The job requires the ability to ideate, prioritize and organize videos in order to create a cohesive, highly visual, engaging and informative viewing experience. You'll serve as a go-to resource for colleagues, providing editorial guidance and constructive feedback, and must be comfortable enforcing deadlines and working in a fast-paced newsroom. This role will require working with desks across the newsroom and requires an effective communicator. This is a Thursday - Sunday role based in New York, that includes regular attendance (2-3 days) in the office each week. Responsibilities will include: Drive innovative and exclusive video news coverage in a range of formats. Oversee a team that produces live breaking news journalism and originally reported visual stories, and fostering experiments with new video concepts and strategies. Decide the order, importance and cadence of video on our site and app Curate, program and assign video stories and journalists Support and guide script writing and visual approaches for effective short form videos. Oversee production across multiple projects, including short-form vertical videos that feature NYT journalists on camera. Collaborate and coordinate on breaking news coverage with The Times's Live team, which produces real-time updates and analysis. Review, assign and provide feedback on stories. Make decisions on domestic and international field deployments, managing video journalists in hostile environments. Manage video journalists and editors in the newsroom and field. Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world. You will report to the Deputy Editor, Video. Basic Requirements: 8+ years of broad and in-depth experience producing video journalism for digital or broadcast news 4+ years proven track record managing video journalists Experience managing complex, high-risk news deployments in the U.S. and around the world. Demonstrated deep command of a variety of video sources, including wire services, UGC, archival footage, motion graphics, and original footage. Understanding of mainstream and emerging social channels. Preferred Requirements: Excellent writing, editing and communication skills Experience overseeing geolocation and UGC verification work. Experience developing and editing visual material for social platforms Expert knowledge of current events with advanced level experience covering breaking news stories in the US and internationally. Familiar with digital storytelling formats. Flexibility to work extended hours
