Work Shift: Day Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Summary: This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing a safe and secure environment for our patients, visitors and staff. Job Description: Job Duties: Performs pro-active patrol duties as required. Responds to all BHU related emergency alarms and duress situations Works with others to maintain a safe and secure environment for all. Ensures all hospital security and safety policies and ensures all BHU specific safety policies and procedures are followed. Prepares accurate reports and daily log of security and safety activities. Reports and monitors all security and safety issues. Provides leadership to others as needed. Establish therapeutic alliances with patients through patient centered communication and engagement. Promote a safe environment for patients by completing safety checks, 1:1 observation, contraband searches, performing environmental rounds, and correcting safety hazards promptly. Monitor patient activity and alerts licensed personnel to any changes in behaviors that are of concern. Consistently engages in threat mitigation and crisis intervention on the unit and provides physical interventions when necessary to maintain safety while using safe techniques and following policy and procedures. Provide direct patient care to assist with activities of daily living. Respond appropriately to emergencies and life-threatening conditions. Assure patient privacy by knocking on doors, closing curtains, and protecting patient information. Initiates patient contact in the Emergency Department related to BHU admissions and performs transports, personal belongings searches, metal detection, and personal belongings entry into Epic. Supports staff through attendance at court hearings and completing patient transports for medical procedures. Is a Department Safety Coordinator and assists in training staff on restraint use, camera monitoring, respiratory safety testing, med-sled training and other DSC duties as required. Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Displays friendly and professional contact with all patients, visitors and staff. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in all situations. Have general security knowledge. Remain calm and professional during stressful situations. Must work well in a team environment. Basic computer skills, MS Word, Excel, e-mail. Must follow Rules of Conduct as established by the department. Must meet and maintain all insurability requirements for purposes of utilizing Mercy vehicles. Professional Experience: Security, Healthcare, Law Enforcement and or Military experience preferred. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree or Bachelor's degree preferred. Licensure, Certification, Registration: Valid Driver's License required. Must meet insurability requirements for purposes of utilizing Mercy vehicles - must be at least age 18 required. Must provide and maintain a good driving record, documented at hire, by a copy of a Motor Vehicle Record. The department requires a valid Professional or Non-Professional Weapons Carry Permit to be obtained within 90 days of employment or transfer. Management of Aggressive Behavior certification required or must obtain within 6 months of hire or transfer. Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association to be acquired within 90 days of hire. Pay Rate Type:
