Recreation Instructor 1/2

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Recreation Instructor 1/2 to work within the Recreation Services Division at the Sunnyvale Senior Center. This position offers flexible working hours and serves adults and older adults aged 50 years and older. The role includes teaching classes in various areas such as fitness, health & wellness, and sports, and requires the ability to work weekday, weeknights, and weekends. Essential Job Functions

The Recreation Instructor will: Teach classes in specific program areas by leading and demonstrating methods and techniques Create, develop or follow lesson plans to teach specific classes or activities Prepare, write and submit class activity descriptions for the Activity Guide and online class registration portal Take attendance and administer/organize other paperwork and forms as needed Responsible for activity/class set up, break down, preparation and equipment as needed Survey class participants to ensure program quality and benchmark community needs Maintain a safe, friendly and inclusive class environment for all participants Adjust activity or class as appropriate or needed to meet the various needs/levels of participants Interact and communicate effectively with participants, families, caregivers, volunteers and City staff Attends City or division trainings, meetings or special events as appropriate Other duties as assigned Working Conditions

The position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work-related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push, pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation. Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way: Recreation Instructor 1: Minimum age is 18 years old High School Diploma, GED or equivalent Recreation Instructor 2: The above for Recreation Instructor 1, plus: Two (2) years or two (2) summer seasons of part-time paid or volunteer teaching experience in a specific class/activity area and/or population (young children, youth adults, older adults, special population) identified above OR A Bachelors Degree in any of the same fields listed above OR A Certificate in any of the same fields listed above OR One (1) year or one (1) summer season of part-time paid or volunteer teaching experience in the same fields listed above Licenses/Certifications: Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Class C drivers license and a safe driving record or the ability to supply alternate transportation as approved by the appointing authority.
