Surface Coating Technician
Coats surface of parts, assemblies, and finished products with protective or decorative materials such as paint, varnish, enamel, lacquer, dope, or stain using spray gun. May select and mixes coating material; coat areas inaccessible to hand sprayer using brush or roller. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Assists painters with paint prep such as clean, mask/unmask, paint and tap holes per established manufacturing instructions. Uses solvents and aqueous cleaners, or abrasive blasting to clean parts, mask/unmask painted parts, apply localized tin plating, and light mechanical assembly. Wash, mask, shot/abrasive blast, and apply metal flame spray to parts and weldments per established manufacturing instructions. Follows instructions to mark fabricated components using silk screen, stencil or pad printing methods and various types of inks or paints in accordance with manufacturing instructions. Makes paper stencils to meet marking requirements of sketches or blueprints. Uses a spray gun for stenciling all kinds of surfaces or manufacturing articles with material such as ink, enamels, lacquer, paint, etc. Uses a spray gun, brushes, or other application methods for coating various types of surfaces of manufacturing articles with finished or protective material. Basic Required Qualifications: Candidate can read and understand complex blueprints and sketches with respect to various paint, marking, plating and touch-up and differentiation between thread sizes, pitch, metric and standard threads. Ability to work safely with chemicals such as solvents, acidic and alkaline solutions and aqueous cleaners. Ability to qualify and retain qualifications necessary of the processes performed. Ability to use various types of measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and thickness measuring equipment. Desired Skills: Experience in: Silk screen, stenciling, pad or other printing processes Use of grinding tools for metal finishing, mix and spray of various types of paints and primers to obtain high-quality finish to desired thickness and color and gloss matching to precise tolerances Experience in: Wash, shot/abrasive blast, mask, and apply the metal flame spray to parts and welded structures per established manufacturing instructions Second Shift Hours: Monday through Thursday 4:18pm-2:48am EST
