VMware (ESXi) Engineer

We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for a VMware (ESXi) Engineer on a 10-year contract providing user facing and data center services supporting an Intelligence Community customer. All the personnel on the team will work together to support innovative design, engineering, procurement, implementation, operations, sustainment and disposal of user facing and data center information technology (IT) services on multiple networks and security domains, at multiple locations worldwide, to support the IC mission. General duties include: Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing compute systems. Performs complex systems engineering design work that may include but not limited to, compute architecture analysis and design, monitoring, troubleshooting, patching, hardware break/fix, and implementing best security practices within the ESXi Virtual Hosted Environment. Plans upgrades of operating systems and designs systems enhancements. Develops documentation on new or existing systems. Develops and conducts tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems. Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and may have supervisory responsibility. May serve as a technical team or task lead. Serves as liaison with clients, participating in meetings to ensure client needs are met. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned. Participates in special projects as required. Installs, configures and manages VMware virtualization environment components (vSphere, VMware Aria Automation (vRA), VMware Aria Operations (vROPs), ESXi, NSX/NSX-T). Provides Operation and Sustainment support for the virtualization environment. Ensures virtualization systems are compliant within required security standards. Develops and maintains O&S Standard Operating Procedures for VMware virtualization environment. Supports diagnoses and troubleshooting of problems with the virtualization environment including Microsoft Windows and Linux O/S systems. Within established procedures, responds to end user requests for technical support and assistance. Supports off-hours maintenance activities. Supports the Certification and Accreditation process for virtualization hosts. Gains familiarity with current data center infrastructure. Maintains current industry knowledge of development concept, practices and procedures. Develops an in-depth understanding of the ITEMS UDS baseline capabilities, design and objectives. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus. 5+ years of related systems engineering experience. Current VMware and/or Cisco UCS experience in their current job or within the last 2 years. Hands-on experience designing and implementing VMware Aria Operations and/or Log Insight in a production environment, to include developing policies and custom dashboards. Advanced knowledge of systems engineering principles, methods, and techniques. Knowledge of the current industry hardware, software, and equipment. VMware ESX 6.7/7.0/8.0. VMware Aria Operations 8.X. VMware Aria Automation 8.X. VMware NSX/NSX-T. Windows Server 2016/2019/2022. Unix/Linux familiarity. Windows 10/11. TCP/IP, DNS, Local Area Networking, AD, GPO. Desired Qualifications: Cloud experience (AWS, Azure). Cisco UCS Cloud Platform. VMware NSX/NSX-T. Experience creating and implementing workflows and blueprints for use with VMware Aria Automation solution. Service Now Experience a plus. Technical written & verbal communication skills (technical writing). Experience supporting Intelligence and/or DoD Customers. Clearance: TS/SCI with ability to obtain CI poly.
