Lead Strategic HR in Beautiful Western Colorado
Garfield County Government is seeking an accomplished
Human Resources Director
to lead a dynamic HR team serving 350+ employees across diverse departments. This position reports directly to the County Manager and serves as a key advisor to senior leadership and elected officials. As the HR Director, you will shape and implement HR strategy aligned with organizational priorities while fostering a culture of public service, compliance, innovation, and employee engagement. Key Responsibilities Direct and supervise a team of HR professionals including senior HR business partners, benefits and leave specialists, generalists, and safety staff. Lead the development and implementation of countywide HR strategies, policies, and programs. Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices. Oversee talent acquisition, workforce development, performance management, and succession planning initiatives. Manage compensation, benefits, and classification systems, including vendor relations and market analyses. Provide expert guidance on employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance improvement plans. Serve as a collaborative partner to department leaders and elected officials across the organization. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, or a related field. 8+ years of progressively responsible HR experience, with at least 4 years in a supervisory role. Demonstrated success in leading HR functions in complex, multi-departmental environments. Knowledge of applicable federal and state labor laws, HRIS systems, and personnel policy development. Preferred Qualifications SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or similar HR certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Master's degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, or Law. Experience in a public sector or government setting. Strong background in employee relations and legal compliance.
