Investigates, monitors, and documents excessive I/I in the sanitary sewer system. Assists in preparing technical field reports to determine the most cost effective method to repair and rehabilitate the sanitary sewer system. Also, assists in sanitary sewer flow monitoring, CCTV inspections, and conducts water and sewer map verification. Job Duties

Investigates, monitors, and documents excessive I/I in the sanitary sewer system by conducting: Hydraulic evaluation and suitable site selection to install computerized flow meters; meter calibration and data retrieval using lap-top computer and data logger; gravity sewer and open channel flow measurements; rainfall, stream flow, and groundwater flow measurements using digital and automated equipment; smoke testing; closed-circuit TV monitoring; flow isolation; manhole inspection; dye water flood testing; pump station draw-down; and smoke testing. Performs a variety of indoor/outdoor tasks using hand-operated power tools and mechanical equipment. Performs hand-on, minor sanitary sewer repairs to prevent inflow and infiltration. Performs minor maintenance on sensitive equipment used by the I/I investigation team. Compiles data generated during field investigation of the sanitary sewer system to produce field reports. Participates and/or assists in operation and maintenance of the Department's closed-circuit TV monitoring equipment. These devices are installed in a special van and are used to investigate and document on tape the internal condition of the sanitary sewer system. Performs field verification of water and sanitary sewer system maps. Generates reports and/or sketches for the Division's mapping group to update Department's utility system maps. Performs all other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G. E. D. preferably supplemented by some college or technical school course work preferred. One year of utility construction, maintenance, surveying or other related experience. Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualification stated above. Licenses and Certifications: Valid Class C driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of construction, maintenance, or operation of water and sanitary sewer systems. Knowledge of the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) for data collection. Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, blue prints, and system maps. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and occasional night shift, ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for periods of time as needed. Ability to maintain excellent records of field investigation and other I/I related activities. Ability to train new team members when necessary. Ability to clearly communicate field investigation results to a variety of personnel in the Department both verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain effective working relationship with other employees, consultants, contractors, and general public courteously and tactfully. Supplemental Information

This position is classified as safety-sensitive. Incumbent will be subject to random drug/alcohol testing. This class specification should not be interpreted as all inclusive. The incumbents may be required to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this specification. This position qualifies for a 5% certification incentive based upon attainment of a water distribution operator certification. This position qualifies for a 5% certification incentive based upon attainment of a wastewater collections systems operator certification. Allows maximum of 10% above grade 16.
