Major Gifts Officer
The YMCA of Greater Toledo is seeking a passionate, strategic, and relationship-driven Major Gifts Officer to join our executive leadership team. As a senior leader, you will play a vital role in advancing the Y's mission to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Major Gifts Officer will lead and grow a robust culture of philanthropy across the association. This position is responsible for securing significant financial support from individuals, corporations, and foundations and will serve as the primary relationship manager for major donors and prospects. Serve as a key member of the CEO's senior leadership team, helping shape strategy and direction for financial development across the association. Collaborate with the CEO, Senior VP/COO, and other executives to set ambitious fundraising goals for annual giving, major gifts, endowment, grants, and special events. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, focusing on securing 5- to 7-figure gifts that meet the association's capital, operational, and endowment needs. Manage a personal portfolio of top-level donors and prospects. Spend approximately 50% of time externally, engaging with current and potential donors, and representing the YMCA at key community events. Lead donor communications, develop compelling cases for support, and share powerful stories that articulate the YMCA's mission and community impact. Oversee the donor recognition program for the entire association. Provide supervision and guidance to the Director of Development and Development Office Director, ensuring excellence in donor stewardship, pledge processing, reporting, and compliance. Support the Senior VP/COO in achieving annual campaign goals. Engage and work alongside the Board of Trustees and other volunteers in fundraising efforts. Represent the YMCA in local and national philanthropic initiatives and task forces as needed. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience. Minimum of 5 years of progressive fundraising experience; YMCA or nonprofit experience preferred. Demonstrated success securing major gifts (5- to 7-figure level). Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with top community leaders and individuals from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of charitable giving vehicles and fundraising best practices. Skilled storyteller with excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Strong organizational skills and emotional intelligence. Experience managing staff and leading teams to achieve development goals.
