Senior Director, Principal Gifts

The Senior Director, Principal Gifts plays a pivotal role in developing and executing a best-in class principal gifts program to cultivate the relationship between UChicago Medicine/Biological Sciences Divisions (UCM/BSD) most transformative donors and their areas of philanthropic interest. The position strives to ensure that the donor experience reflects the institutions reputation of excellence and eminence. The Senior Director will manage a portfolio of principal gift donors, playing a key role in cultivating long-term relationships with donors who have the capacity to make transformative gifts, while leveraging the relationships and vision of UCM/BSD leaders to secure support for strategic priorities and initiatives. Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of top principal, mega, and legacy gift donors, establishing individual fundraising goals, participating in meeting annual Principal Gifts team fundraising goals, building personal relationships with prospects, composing high quality correspondence, conceiving and developing recognition events, developing and maintaining a broad understanding of the UChicago Medicine/Biological Sciences Division, partnering with the AVP, Principal Gifts to refine and grow the principal gift team, and assuming leadership for assigned key strategic initiatives. Minimum qualifications include a college or university degree in a related field and 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline. Preferred qualifications include experience in development or a related field, demonstrated history of organizing successful fundraising or marketing activities, experience in prospect identification and relationship building, experience managing volunteers, experience developing and monitoring budgets, experience in a university setting or a similarly complex institution, and previous management experience.
