We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Test Automation Architect with deep expertise across Cloud, Web, Mobile, and IoT platforms to define and implement comprehensive test automation strategies for Abbotts next-generation medical device software portfolio (Class II and Class III devices). In this role, you will combine technical leadership while managing and mentoring a focused team of SDETs, remaining hands-on in driving technical solutions, architectural decisions, and automation frameworks. You will collaborate cross-functionally with development, product, operations, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality, compliant software systems. What You'll Work On: Automation Strategy & Framework Ownership: Architect and implement scalable automation solutions across cloud-native, web, mobile, and IoT platforms. Define automation frameworks for functional, integration, regression, system, and end-to-end validation. Build and maintain reusable test libraries, tools, and pipelines that enable efficient automation and continuous testing. Technical Leadership & Execution: Serve as the technical authority for automation design and implementation decisions. Drive shift-left testing, embedding automated quality gates into CI/CD pipelines. Collaborate closely with DevOps, software engineers, and product teams to integrate automation early into the SDLC. System-Level Quality Considerations: Collaborate with performance engineers and system architects to ensure the scalability, reliability, and responsiveness of distributed systems. Contribute to system validation strategies, including integration and end-to-end testing, to support overall product quality. Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure all test strategies and practices align with medical device regulatory standards (FDA, ISO, IEC 62304). Support documentation, verification, and validation processes required for regulatory submissions and audits. Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Research emerging technologies, automation tools, and quality engineering practices. Evaluate and introduce new capabilities such as AI-powered testing, self-healing automation, or advanced monitoring. Stakeholder Communication: Provide clear technical updates, quality metrics, and risk assessments to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. Partner with program management, quality, regulatory, and product teams to align on delivery timelines and quality objectives. People Leadership: Lead a small, highly skilled team of SDETs, providing hands-on technical guidance, mentorship, and fostering a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement. Required Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. Minimum 12 years of hands-on test automation experience for complex software systems (cloud, web, mobile, IoT pipelines). Expertise in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP), microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, IoT data integrations. Proficiency in automation frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Appium, Cucumber, REST Assured, Postman, or Karate. Strong programming skills in Java, Python, or JavaScript. Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps automation, and cloud-native deployments. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications: 2+ years of experience managing and mentoring a team of SDETs. Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline. Experience with performance, load, stress, or soak testing of distributed systems using tools such as JMeter, k6, Gatling, or Locust. Familiarity with system integration and end-to-end testing in complex environments. Experience with containerization, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation). Exposure to service virtualization tools (e.g., WireMock, Mountebank) and contract testing (e.g., Pact). Familiarity with AI-powered testing frameworks or advanced observability solutions. Experience or strong interest in leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as Generative AI and Agentic AI to scale and optimize test automation strategies. Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries is a strong plus. The base pay for this position is $146,700.00
