Process Controls Engineer I (PC-01)

The Process Controls Engineer I provides entry-level automation support. Assists with basic PLC logic, tag lists, and documentation. Works under close supervision. Supports HMI and logic block configuration. Helps with panel checks, I/O verification, and device commissioning tasks. Supports PLC/HMI systems and I&C documentation updates. Plays a critical role in aligning Reliable Controls' internal project execution standards with external benchmarks. This role includes travel to client sites and project locations globally. Key Responsibilities: Supports PLC/HMI development and basic logic configuration. Assists in I/O checks, panel verification, and tag list documentation. Works under guidance of senior engineers during factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT). Participates in loop testing and control system walkdowns Learns RCC's control standards and commissioning practices. Hands-on support for commissioning/start-up activities. Key Competencies: Completes process control and instrumentation tasks under the guidance of senior engineers, with a focus on learning and applying engineering principles. Demonstrates a proactive commitment to personal and team safety in all work activities. Gaining proficiency in interpreting and working with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Developing familiarity with key technical documents and systems, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Instrument Loop Diagrams, I/O Schematics, ISA Instrument Datasheets, Control Narratives, and Cause and Effect Diagrams Basic understanding of control loop fundamentals, including common instrumentation and equipment such as control valves, pumps, and transmitters (flow, pressure, level, temperature, pH, etc.). Demonstrates emerging troubleshooting skills in control systems and instrumentation issues. Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document work clearly and contribute to technical discussions and reports. Foundational knowledge of mineral processing and/or oil & gas production systems through coursework, internships, or academic projects. Exposure to material and energy balance concepts in process systems. Self-motivated, eager to learn, and displays a professional attitude in both independent and team settings. Open to feedback, adaptable to change, and demonstrates accountability in decision-making. Follows established procedures and engineering standards under general supervision. Work Environment: Working on-site in heavy industrial environments mostly but not limited to mining and gas industries. Extreme temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture Slippery and/or uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; and at heights. Hours of operation and employee schedules vary based on each project and may require irregular or extended hours and travel for project completion. Travel, including both domestic and international. Frequent standing, occasional bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, balancing, and reaching. Exposure to noise, vibrations, well-treating chemicals, glycol, methanol, gasoline, natural gas, and liquid hydrocarbons. Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a similar engineering field. 0 to 2 years of experience in process control engineering. Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Ability to possess a passport for international travel. Travel Requirements: This position requires frequent travel, estimated at 50% to 80%, including both domestic and international assignments. Candidates must have the flexibility to travel on short notice and for extended durations, including weekends as needed to meet project deadlines. A valid driver's license is required for travel to job sites Candidates must also possess, or be eligible to obtain, a passport and any required travel visas to support global operations. FLSA Status: This position is classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is paid on a salaried basis during standard office or non-field assignments.
