Postdoctoral Researcher

The Center for Energy, Environmental, and Economic Systems Assessment (CEEESA) works on innovative research to enhance the resilience, efficiency, and affordability of power grids. Advanced optimization technologies are revolutionizing the way power grid is operated and planned. CEEESA is seeking talented and motivated researchers to enhance its capability in solving energy challenges using advanced computing, optimization, and data analytics technologies. The postdoctoral researcher will work with a team of researchers on solving challenging problems using optimization, stochastic models, machine learning, and control in the energy sector. The postdoc researcher will perform theoretical study and algorithm development on optimization/control/data analytics methods and authorize peer-reviewed journal/conference publications; the successful candidate will develop open-source packages and help disseminate research results to academic and industry community; and will draft research proposals and apply funding from federal agencies (e.g., the Department of Energy and National Science Foundation). A successful candidate should have a solid background in power system engineering, optimization/computing and data analytics, track records of publications in peer-reviewed journals, a strong problem-solving capability, a highly skilled implementation capability, and strong interest in solving real-world problems. Position Requirements

Recent or soon-to-be completed (typically within the last 0-5 years) PhD in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field. Solid knowledge, and independent research capability in optimization, computing, power system engineering with track records of publications. Proficient in implementing control and optimization algorithms with mainstream programming languages such as Julia, Python, Java, C/C++, etc. Proficiency in writing scientific research articles and presenting results at academic conferences. Experience with solving challenging computational problems. Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork. This position requires an on-site presence at the Argonne campus in Lemont, Illinois. Preferred Qualifications

Solid knowledge and independent research capability in stochastic process, machine learning and data analytics with track records of publications.
