EMT Or AEMT - Emergency Medical Services (Medic V)

Responsible for performing emergency medical treatment communication and transport to the medical center. The EMT-Basic is an entry-level basic life support professional who is capable of functioning independently at the basic life support level but is still focused on gaining knowledge and experience. Responsibilities include: Assessing and treating ill and injured patients in accordance with local and university protocols. Maintaining safety as a primary role throughout all aspects of care and transportation. Identifying potential areas for improved care. Interfacing effectively with peers and customers and assuming responsibility for professional development of self and others per department policy. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Position compensation range: $16.31 - $25.28 hourly. Minimum requirements: Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Experience: None Licensure: Certified as a health emergency medical technician in the Commonwealth of Virginia required. Valid driver's license (VADL) and at least 2 years of driving experience required. American Heart Association (AHA) health care provider BLS certification required. EVOC certification and released driver to transport patients required within 90 days of hire. Physical demands: Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling, climbing (ladder, steps), and driving. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull > 100lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, vibrations, humidity, cold, heat, noise, outdoor climate, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The University of Virginia is an equal opportunity employer.
