Job Location: 211 Bailey Rd, Rochester, New York, United States of America, 14586 Opening: Regular Time Type: Part time Scheduled Weekly Hours: 24 Department: 500234 Histopathology Work Shift: UR - Day (United States of America) Range: UR URCC 212 H Compensation Range: $31.82 - $41.37 The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Responsibilities: General Purpose Responsible for all of the functions of processing tissue samples for histological diagnosis by a pathologist including grossing, embedding, microtomy, special stains and processing Immunohistochemistry slides. Essential Functions: Grosses sections of human tissue for examination. Operates laboratory equipment to embed, section and stain specimens. Operates equipment to perform special staining and Immunohistochemistry stains as requested, including manual staining as required. Examines slides under microscope to ensure slides meet laboratory quality standards. Follows all departmental and organizational policies, procedures, quality objectives and safety standards and keeps current with changes in laboratory processes and procedures. Performs maintenance on laboratory equipment, including but not limited to, preventative, routine, and troubleshooting. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Education & Experience: Associate's degree in applied sciences required. Previous experience as a histology technician preferred. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of anatomy, histology, and chemistry preferred Licenses and Certifications: HT - Histotechnologist - ASCP certification upon hire required or HTL - Histo Technologist certification upon hire required or MLT-Medical Lab Technician (ASCP) NYS Licensure upon hire required or MT Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technologist NYS Licensure upon hire required The University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving an inclusive and welcoming culture to advance the University's Mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create
