The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Department's core values. The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Full Stack Developer in the Bureau of Technology and Development Systems. Reporting directly to the Director of Applications Development, the successful candidate will: Oversee all application development and support within FDNY in support of the agency's overall mission including, but not limited to: Web-based Application Development. Native & Hybrid Mobile Apps Development Responsive Web App development Cloud based application development for public facing systems MIS Reporting & Dashboards Define, implement and enforce an overall application development strategy and SOPs for the application development community. Provide executive oversight of application development processes and project progress & delivery delegating day-to-day management to individual supervisors. Mentor application developers and supervisors in building and enhancing both technical and soft skills. Participate in Planning & Architecture Design discussions at an Enterprise level by providing application development perspective and context thus help drive FDNY to newer and better technologies & systems. Special Working Conditions: May be required to work shifts including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. IT Automation and Monitoring E-95712 Minimum Qualifications: A baccalaureate degree in computer science, engineering or a related field from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to IT automation engineering, monitoring engineering, management of infrastructure; or Eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to IT automation engineering, monitoring engineering, management of infrastructure; Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Preferred Skills: Have at least 10 years of experience in IT and specifically in Application Development under increasingly responsible roles. Be a strong leader with vision and the ability to communicate and disseminate that vision across the ranks. Have strong technical skills to effectively lead, especially in technologies currently in use within FDNY such as Java, Python, Oracle APEX, SQL & PL/SQL, JavaScript (AngularJS, ReactJS, Node.JS) and Mobile App Development. Have extensive experience in the design, development and implementation of loosely coupled systems using Service Oriented Architectures and API-driven development. Possess a thorough understanding of Cloud Technologies and application development in the cloud. Understanding of Application Security and Secure Coding practices. Understanding of newer technologies such as Micro Service Architectures, Container Architectures, etc. would be beneficial.
