Job Description:

Are you an expert in high-precision machining with a knack for leading teams and tackling unique challenges?

We are seeking a highly accomplished Lead Machinist to become a cornerstone of our custom automation team. In the custom automation industry, every project is a new frontier, requiring bespoke solutions and unparalleled precision. This role is perfect for a master craftsman who thrives on creating complex, one-off components and is eager to guide a team through the intricacies of prototype and specialized part manufacturing. You'll be a key pivot point in our rapid prototyping process, ensuring designs move seamlessly from concept to reality.

If you are known for your meticulous attention to detail, your ability to troubleshoot complex machining issues, and your passion for mentoring others, this is an unparalleled opportunity to apply your expertise in a truly dynamic and innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities: Serve as the primary technical resource and mentor for a small, dedicated team of machinists, providing expert guidance on complex setups, programming, and troubleshooting. Independently program, set up, and operate multi-axis CNC machining centers (mills, lathes) to produce highly precise components from diverse materials, often under tight deadlines. Masterfully utilize advanced CAD/CAM software, pushing the boundaries of toolpath optimization and machining strategies for challenging geometries and exotic materials. Conduct rigorous first-article and in-process inspections using a full suite of precision metrology equipment, ensuring strict adherence to GD&T and quality standards. Proactively identify and resolve complex machining and tooling issues, implementing permanent corrective actions and driving continuous process improvements. Collaborate intimately with design engineers, providing expert feedback on design for manufacturability (DFM) and actively participating in design reviews. Manage machining schedules, allocate resources efficiently, and ensure on-time delivery of critical components for multiple concurrent projects. Champion and enforce a culture of safety, cleanliness, and operational excellence within the machine shop.

Recommended Qualifications: 5+ years of extensive experience as a CNC Machinist, with a minimum of 2 years in a lead or advanced technical role, ideally in custom automation, prototype, or precision tooling. Expert-level proficiency in G-code and M-code programming for complex, multi-axis CNC machining centers (mills and lathes) across various control systems. Advanced mastery of CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM) for advanced toolpath generation and simulation. Comprehensive understanding and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) for critical part inspection. Proven ability to use and calibrate a wide range of precision measuring instruments, including experience with CMM operation preferred. Deep knowledge of material science as it pertains to machining various alloys (tool steel, stainless steel, aluminum, plastics, composites). Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a strong ability to diagnose and rectify complex machining errors and process inefficiencies.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with 5-axis machining and advanced fixturing techniques. Background in a research & development or rapid prototyping environment. Certifications in CNC programming, metrology, or GD&T. Experience with automated quality inspection systems.

Roles That Should Apply: Master CNC Machinist Senior Prototype Machinist Tooling Lead CNC Applications Engineer (with hands-on experience) Advanced Manufacturing Technician

If you are a truly exceptional Lead Machinist who thrives on pushing technical boundaries, mentoring emerging talent, and contributing to the development of cutting-edge custom automation solutions, this role offers the perfect platform for your expertise.
